been playing more Riftbound lately bc of my job and it's really interesting coming into a game this early and noticing how the good players know *every* card like. you can't know all 5,164 cards currently legal in MTG Standard, but there are only 1100 *total* cards in RB.

really excited for more limited play opportunities to start popping up with the next set going all-in on draft. i think RB has a very interesting limited sandbox because of the options you're given with color & legend/champ vs. forgoing one for an extra card. drafting legends is neat too.

Gutted about BioWare. No reason for this. Every one of their admittedly many failings over the last 10 years was 100% the fault of executives, not the hundreds they just made redundant. Every day I question my decision to continue engaging with and supporting a single thing from AAA publishers.

Consolidation is killing our industry. The Gamergaters who make money off the rage game will have you think this is a victory. This is purely a loss. A loss of work and art and fun and expression in a space that desperately needs it. Massive fucking bummer.

Online discourse pits us against each other so we don't pay attention to billionaires getting richer while dismantling careers and meddling in media. Every idiot who cheers this on will earn NOTHING but a temporary revenue boost. Your gas is still too expensive. Your hardware is still too pricy.

EA is going private under PIF and Jared Kushner's ownership. Wilson will probably make even more money while thousands of people look for work. This isn't a win for anyone except the fat cats who want us to remain angry at each other online so we don't pay attention to their strip mining.

Played my first Standard RCQ (9 days after my first time playing Standard in paper) and placed 7th! It’s not *that* impressive but I feel really good about it

Went 3-3, eliminated in the first round of top cut. Playing Mono-Blue Machinations, a control deck that tries to win with either of the new Jace ults. Folded pretty bad to Boros dragons and dimir reanimator. Didn’t have a way to answer Cavern of Souls and I only have so many bounce spells.

Still, tempo plays were strong. I had Boros dragons for at least one game if not for a crucial mistake that ultimately boils down to confidence. I think this deck has legs, and given some more reps (and a sideboard assembled more than 15 minutes before leaving for the venue) I think I can hit top 4

Fuck, the Reality Fracture cards all look good. The precon is really cool too, it genuinely might be a better home for a Jace kindred deck than my current mono-blue one. Might be nice to unshackle the power level of Vryn’s Prodigy a bit, freeing space by moving Jace flavor stuff to the new one

Shit like this is half of why I’m barely playing any new video games. No stupid person ever got smarter from having a glowing line drawn that allows them to continue avoiding critical thought while their brain atrophies. If you design like this, hang it up.

This is why I didn’t play Halo 1 Remastered Remastered Remastered, either. It’s why I will never play an Uncharted campaign. “It’s just white paint”, “it’s just a voice line” it pulls me out of the experience every time. Because I know why you’re doing it, and it’s insulting.

Even my current favorite game of the year, Star Wars Zero Company (obligatory: EA gave me a free code) does this in its third person “exploration” segments and it’s maddening. Spend that booth time recording more combat dialogue so I stop hearing “ah kriff” every time Hawks misses

Frustrating new world of difficult to acquire media has revealed itself to me: abridged audiobooks. I know an abridged Rainbow Six exists. It’s on eBay for $4 all day, either on cassette or 5 CDs. Can’t find it digitally, legal or otherwise. I’m not trying to listen to 36 hours of Clancy 😭
