National Tight Ends Day would be the perfect day to fire Jason Beck.

Bill Radjewski@collegefootballdata.com

Michigan's defense has held all 7 opponents to 20 points or fewer. Since 2014, FBS teams that do that win 87% of the time. Michigan is 4-3. Jason Beck has to go. Now. Here's the data. 🧵

For the 20+ yard play stat alone, you should legally be allowed to slug Jason Beck one (1) time if you see him in public. This is “if you were trying to sabotage Michigan football, what would you do differently?” territory.

Bill Radjewski@collegefootballdata.com

The short version: • Michigan's worst run game since 2013 • Plays of 20+ yards: #135 of 138 in FBS • Beck's last two offenses were #1 in rushing both years. This one: #81 • Other P4 offenses score 9 more points a game vs. the same defenses

And somebody had given one of their sticks to my son during the first intermission! (His sister got to ride the Zamboni)

There were 11 NHL games last night. Former #collegehockey players scored the GWG or shootout winner in 9 of them. 📸: Minnesota Wild

We live 1.0 miles from Stadium & Main, and the first two cars, both BMWs, to leave our block were out of here less than 16 minutes after the game ended. I’m blaming those guys.

“Why are we putting in bike lanes for the few people who use them?” #a2council

“Copenhagen reported that 62% of its residents are now commuting to work or school by bike — an increase from 52% in 2015 & 36% in 2012, when the City Council launched a 14-year-plan to improve the quality, safety & comfort of cycling.” #Copenhagen chose. They keep choosing even better every year.

I accidentally proposed a play date for my 4-y/o at the Game Over Gala for the AADL’s Summer Game, and the dad I was with took note that multiple people complimented my shirt in the few minutes before we bailed to a quieter location. So: impress your Dad Friends! Buy War on Cars merch!

The War on Cars has a new store! I'm not saying you need to redo your entire wardrobe, but the beanie is cool as hell, the logo shirt is heavily discounted, and the mug lets you make your vest wearing, pickup truck owning, desk job working coworkers uneasy at the next meeting. thewaroncars.store

taking the children to their first Tigers game later this month — vs the Dodgers. hoping to see Skubal so I can begin to educate them that on a Chris Illitch team, you’re always trying to get rid of your best players

It’s fun that they’re trying out the “Runner on Second PLUS ~Wacky Ball~ in extras” combo in this Tigers-Cubs game, but I’m surprised they’re just jumping in midseason before a trial in the minors or something

I’ve always thought of nut and peanut allergies as the bad ones because there are some scary cases of terrible reactions to minor exposure, but my son has both plus a dairy allergy, and dairy is more annoying by miles.

Saw a breakfast place a block from our hotel in Chicago that looks good, but I know if we show up and the pancakes and French toast all have dairy with no option to substitute, kid’s gonna crash out.

I do want to speak ill of the dead. I regret that I’ve been meaning to send Mitch a handwritten letter to tell him I’m going to plan a road trip to piss on his grave, and I haven’t sent it yet and it’s probably too late.

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

Don't want to speak ill of the dead, so getting this Mitch McConnell take out now. He saw Trump with complete clarity, as a danger to America, but protected him anyway. Perhaps more than anyone, he had the power to end Trumpism, but chose party over country. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/jan-6-and-...

I am an obnoxiously careful driver in my neighborhood, like I annoy someone every day by going under 25 on the long street people use as a cut-through. Last week in our van I completely missed a man and his 60-lb dog waiting to cross until I saw the yellow xwalk lights he had activated, to my left

I could never sufficiently thank the nurses, doctors, techs, Child Life staff, volunteers, therapists, donors, and even fellow patients/parents who cared for Felix or helped make life livable through the last year of admissions, but if you are one or know one, I am so grateful for everything.

And let me put in a word for volunteering at the hospital, if you have time and want to do something incredible for others. The volunteers in the playroom and the Patient Pals who would visit Felix in his room and play or build Legos with him were living miracles, for him and us.

Another, more personal, update: this morning my son Felix was discharged and “clapped out” from his last scheduled admission for treatment for Neuroblastoma, an event 14 months in the making. He still has two cycles/months of frontline treatment at home, but this was the last planned admission.

I understand the necessity in some cases, but when somebody’s default post settings make it so this is the only way I can respond to any post in any thread they started, it strikes me as antisocial media. Anyway, looks like “Cobra Man” and “Worble” cobra-man-music.myshopify.com/products/202...

Just saw a man checking out at Your Ypsilanti Meijer Store in a very vintage Coach and Four t-shirt and was very tempted to ask if I could “take a picture of it for the internet.”

Hope this includes “look *in front of you* when you’re driving forward” for the driver who hit me and ran over my bike (then drove off) on Friday.

Hey, do we think the silly beans who work on this app know that your feed scrolls all the way to the top if you open a photo and turn the phone sideways to make it big enough to read any of the text?

For some reason, a nurse was directing another nurse to the consult room here on the Coach Carr Unit on 7E, except she had to use a more recognized name: the Bad News Room. Fun room to have at your workplace 🫤

It’s weird; I know where we are, I understand what can and does happen here, and I worked in IT for this med school, which had a “standardized patient” experience module called “Breaking Bad News.” But hearing it called that and knowing we walk past it all the time … feels bad.

Have had a classist thought about itemizing deductions this morning, but the class I am ist is the paid-off, Prop-A’d NIMBY class trying to lock our city in amber, so I don’t feel bad about it.

It’s okay, everybody. I realized Michigan had scored once during each beer I drank in the first and I had stopped drinking because armsleep. But kid’s in bed now so I ran to get another during the PP and had taken my first sip when Perron scored, and: I am on my 4th now.

If you can’t drive behind someone keeping pace with traffic but maintaining a safe(ish) following distance without tailgating or making a dangerous attempt to pass, you need Marshmallow Test training.
