I'm so glad I escaped the fat furry side of bluesky. May I never stumble into that forsaken corner again

idk how I got myself on the weirdest side of bluesky and I'm getting tired of blocking these accounts... I don't engage with this shit, why do you keep shoving it to my face

The whole discourse on @hankgreen.bsky.social using AI to research his videos is so skewed. The moral high ground and grandstanding of some is so tone deaf. A shame Hank's use apprently affected the quality of his videos, but using LLMs to do literature research is not a demonic issue

Fed my shrimp just to have ome of them steal a pellet for themselves. First time seeing a non-amano shrimp do this lol

TIL that A&A charges 150€ for each page over 12 in papers (for sponsoring countries). Mine is 13 🫠. Time to rework another really long paper to make it fit in 12 pages 😭πŸ§ͺ

I think it's also fair to say: cite the original discovery paper on your follow-up paper. Without them you'd have nothing to follow up in the first place

PSA: Please just look at the NASA Exoplanet Archive first, before you publish your paper, and whatever numbering/lettering someone else already published for that system, USE THE SAME NUMBERING/LETTERING. It's not a choose-your-own-adventure! It's a carefully curated list of approved names! Gah!!!

The first iterstion of #ExoChile is wrapping up β€” a meeting of the exoplanet community in Chile. Good to see colleagues and friends again, god place for healthy discussion. Importantly a lot of collaborations be brewing 😎 πŸ§ͺ

Using Claude to test an exoplanet fitting routine I'm buidling, it confidently says the true period of the system was X. When asked where did it get that number from (which was wrong), it said it made it up. I see my position as a scientist is secure for the foreseable future. πŸ”

πŸ§ͺπŸ” I read a really interesting paper about topology in timeseries analysis. I was intrigued and tried to applying it in exoplanets. I build a waveform-agnostic periodogram based on Taken's theorem. The results? It doesn't fucking work. Read about my journey here: www.jvines.cl/blog/2026/on...

The commoditization of exoplanet discoveries makes it increasingly difficult for modest teams to advance, giving the instrument time hoarders an unfair advantage, which saddens me a lot

So many people complaining about slop PRs in their code and I'm here like excluded from the slop I guess :(

My CTO really just pointed at a start up two "non techies" and told us "we could build that, it's a quick win" πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

I see a bunch of posts about Tesla and people returning their cars and whatnot. I wonder if all this noise effectively affects Tesla's bottom line. Other than "stock went down for a while"

I need a healthier way of coping with (likely) depression. Working after hours can't be good for me in the long run.

Self hosting stuff is such a lifestyle. I really can't imagine myself subscribing to any service again - except YouTube. I consume way too much YouTube

You are up to date.
