This story was 1.5 years in the making. Truly a highlight of my career to help shepherd such a nuanced and important piece. Also, we've made all the data public: github.com/reuters-grap...

As many parts of the US brace for a sweltering week, our latest uncovers a critical and often overlooked intersection of climate change and correctional policy: The dangerous heat crisis within US prisons www.reuters.com/graphics/USA...

Congress has passed hundreds of laws protecting federal public lands over the past century through bipartisan efforts and with the support of local governments. Now, Trump’s administration is pushing policies and legislation that upend these protections. www.reuters.com/graphics/USA...

This story had me reliving all the doctor who told me that it was normal to have irregular cycles and not to worry. It wasn't until we started trying to have kids that I learned the importance of my period as a vital sign, something I wish I had known in my 20s www.reuters.com/graphics/USA...

Period loss affects approximately 3% to 4% of women of reproductive age, and except for during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it’s not normal. The health impacts go far beyond the cycle. What happens, and how the body can heal: www.reuters.com/graphics/USA...

It's Met Gala day, so naturally we traced hundreds of outfits from the red carpet to show just how much bigger and bolder the fashion has become over the years www.reuters.com/graphics/USA...

Devastating news about polygon today. So sorry for the whole staff, but also for us readers. No other gaming site has quite the same depth, fun and funkiness of polygon kotaku.com/polygon-sold...

I'm no longer with Polygon. If you're hiring, please consider the many talented writers and editors now on the market. Every one of them deserves a spot on your staff. I won't be talking more about the sale because I wasn't involved. Going to hang out with my kid. Taking wins where I can.

Disney's Snow White remake hits theaters today, the latest in a long trend of "live-action" — though still special-effect dependent — versions. Critics and audiences generally dislike the adaptions. So, why do they keep making them? www.reuters.com/graphics/WAL...

Fires are growing faster in the western United States. The fastest of them — termed 'fast fires' — often erupt near towns and account for most structural wildfire damage according to researchers who analyzed over 60,000 fires from 2001 to 2020 reut.rs/3WsCyyz

We're working on a cool thing (no spoilers) that's got me revisiting news games that I actually liked. Like, @moriartymaps.bsky.social's www.washingtonpost.com/politics/int..., which probably is the best thing any of us have ever done. Any other great ones I should revisit?

If you'd like to truly and completely destroy your Spotify algorithm, may I suggest that you: * rely on video game soundtracks to get into coding flow-state * raise a 2-year-old

This also shocked me when I taught, I had to add a class on file structure. My lesson on functions went better.

My web development students don't even know what files they own are. We have to review file structure every assignment that requires JavaScript or CSS. They live out of their downloads folder like it's a van by the river.

Honored to have an essay out in The Journal of the Data Visualization Society today, my first formal publication. Thank you to @juruwolfe.bsky.social for an amazing mentorship this summer, it was an honor to work with you!

nightingaledvs.comHow a DVS Mentorship Changed My Approach to Data JournalismOver the course of the mentorship, I iterated on a data visualization project that bridged my two passions: data science and journalism.

You are up to date.
