Many story structure models focus on the protagonist, treating the antagonist as irrelevant. But without an antagonist, you have no conflict. And antagonist don't need to be characters. "Antagonistic Beats of a Story" is out now. judylmohr.com/books/antago... #BookSky #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

#IWishIKnew how often fear masquerades as “I’m just being careful.” One of these days I figure out how to tell the fears to go take a flying leap into the nearest lake to down. Or perhaps that should be river... or ocean. The lake is too far away. #WritingCommunity #WriteSky

This exactly! The entire world falls away and it's fun and peaceful... even when I'm writing violence. #PretendPanel

#PretendPanel How does it feel when you are in the thick of the process? Bliss

This beautiful creature decided to say hello by sitting in the tree that is just outside my office window. I think it was a good distraction from the writing. (Photo was taken by me using my DSLR.) #NewZealand #Wildlife #WritersLife

#IWishIKnew that the joy of writing sometimes hides under the pile of everything else we’re told to do. But it's the little moments that count, right? So I get up before the sun does. Who needs to sleep anyway? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #AmWriting

Canada is now insisting that ISBNs be allocated to human-authored stories only. This is a step in the right direction. Canadian publishers must now publish only human-generated content. In the policy is what AI can be used for. Screenshot is from the Canadian government website. #WritingCommunity

The urge to check my email first thing in the morning is so strong... but must resist! For the sake of my mental bandwidth and my writing, I must resist! Must write for a few hours first! I'm so weak... but no, must not check email! But... but... NO! Must not do it! #WritersLife #FirstWorldProblems

I've taken active steps to removed US politics from my feeds (actively adding words to my personal filter list). BUT it's irritating when the post is just an image with no caption that the filter lists are able to target. I don't think these images were using ALT text either. #frustrated

Just finished giving another webinar... and there were only a few questions. I always seem to get very little questions. It means one of two things: 1) I'm really good at explaining the ideas, or 2) I really suck. I hope it's the former. #SelfDoubt #WritingCommunity

#IWishIKnew how often “that’s a them problem, not a me problem” would save my sanity. I've said this far too many times in the past few months for my own good. #WritingCommunity #WriteSky #AmWriting

These sorts of communication breakdowns irritate me the most about our internet-based world. It's unacceptable to say that you've updated contact databases when you clearly haven't. Rant over.

Judy L Mohr@judylmohr.com

You tell a certain organization about your updated email. You have an email confirmation that they've updated the email in their database. A year later, you get critical emails sent to the old email. Um... The person who said they updated my email in their database clearly lied! #FirstWorldProblems

We're at the time of the year when the #weather can't make up it's mind. Looking at the long-range forecast for Christchurch, NZ, today it's going to be 27 degC (ugh... hot!), but tomorrow we return to rain, eventually dropping back down to 11 degC for Friday. Spring! It's definitely Spring!

#IWishIKnew how often my brain would choose fiction daydreaming over actual fiction writing. Sometimes, getting the words actually onto the paper… brain stop wandering and write! #AmWriting #WriteSky

Can't is an evil word. But it also sparks motivation. Tells me I can't do something, and my subconscious starts working on "how" I can do it. This can be a good and bad thing... like the time I totalled the boss's car. #MondayBlogs #BlastFromThePast #MondayMotivation judylmohr.com/2016/06/28/n...

judylmohr.comCan’t is an evil word… It shouldn’t exist. For me, the word can't is a challenge that my brain subconsciously accepts, for good or bad. If I hear the word can't, my brain goes, "Watch me!"

I'd like to point out that it's very difficult to focus on anything when the world refuses to stay still. Vertigo sucks royally! And this particular bout is making it difficult to walk in a straight line... or stay still in my office chair. #WritersLife

Not impressed with FB changes regarding link limits for non-verified accounts (and verification costs too much for such a low return). As such, I'm making the big move to here. Time to get to know you all. Tell me about yourself and what you would like to know about me. #WritingCommunity #WriteSky

#IWishIKnew that naming characters would feel like choosing baby names under pressure. You choose the wrong one and... Well, I guess it could be a plot point if you're writing a series. #WritingCommunity #WriteSky

How many times have you misspelled something on social media but blamed autocorrect? Be honest. You know you've done it at least once or twice. Today, let's pay homage to some of the masterpiece moments of autocorrect and bad spelling. #WritingCommunity #MondayBlogs judylmohr.com/2017/06/21/a...

judylmohr.comI’m a gluten for punishment. Autocorrect is a Beast!Autocorrect gets blamed for many awkward situations. However, sometimes it is just bad (or rushed) spelling. Time to have a laugh.

When I started writing, no one told me my characters would refuse to behave. Instead, the run away down the left fork to start a rebellion, slaughtering the character that I had originally planned to win the war. #IWishIKnew how to convince these characters to do as I asked. #WritingCommunity

Want to be a good #writer? Then read more than published works. Published works help you understand what readers want in edited works. But reading the works that have yet to be fully edited help to develop editorial skills. #WritingCommunity #MondayBlogs #AmEditing judylmohr.com/2017/03/31/r...

So glad that someone believes I'm a soccer fan, but hey... Eventually scammers will learn that sending 18 copies of the exact same email within a minute is not necessary, because all if it goes directly to the spam folder. Idiots! (Image is a screenshot of my spam folder.) #Scammers #InternetSafety

Not quite the way I would have put it, but I love the concept. I now have a whole story floating around in my head (teasing me) about a GenAI and the writer trying to reason with the GenAI about the merits of their work. I might just have to write that story. #WritingCommunity #WriteSky #ACESVCon26

#IWishIKnew how to turn off the red squiggly lines that function within my brain. There are certain words that no matter how many times I look at them, they look wrong. Like pneumonia. I know that's right, but I have to look it up EVERY time. #WritingCommunity #WriteSky

No idea why anyone would want to steal a 2011 Toyota Yaris (one being held together by duct tape), but clearly someone really wanted it. But their attempt to steal my car was foiled by the immobilizer. They got it started, but only moved a meter before the engine crapped out. #LifeSucks
