A record number of people are dying in ICE custody under the Trump Administration. This agency is responsible for the people in its care, and it is failing that basic duty. ICE and the Trump Administration must be held accountable for the people who have died under their watch.

The Trump Administration is preparing to attack any election result that doesn’t go their way. If Donald Trump thinks that he will overturn the will of the people with a conspiracy-fueled attempt to void the election, he should be ready to once again lose in courtrooms across the country.

This letter spreads conspiracies without ever addressing the fact that Republicans continue to violate Senate Rules by withholding the documents they used to falsely accuse Jack Smith of perjury. This is all a distraction from Trump’s disgraceful crimes that Smith investigated.

politico.comGrassley slams Democrats for ‘falling over themselves’ to defend Jack SmithThe Iowa Republican said his team is working to make withheld documents available after last month’s hearing.

Jack Smith was falsely accused of perjury based on information that was not provided to Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee—in violation of Senate rules. We are demanding access to these documents and answers for how this farce was allowed to happen.

Sen. SCHMITT: We have texts saying you attended an Atlanta Hawks game in February 2024. Former Special Counsel Jack Smith: I believe it was a Maryland-Iowa game. Sen. KLOBUCHAR: The Iowa HAWKeyes. Perhaps the Senator from Missouri should have looked at these texts more carefully.

Sen. HIRONO: Each of the allegations in your indictment of President Trump had to be found to be supported by probable cause, correct? Former Special Counsel Jack Smith: Yes. Sen. HIRONO: And did you believe the allegations were provable beyond a reasonable doubt? Smith: Yes.

Sen. BOOKER: The Vice President barely escaped, Members of Congress almost were physically assaulted. Your report concluded that was because of Donald Trump, is that correct? Former Special Counsel Smith: We found that violence was foreseeable to him, and he sought to exploit it.

Sen. BLUMENTHAL: I want to show you a picture of how Donald Trump stored classified documents. Is this how you should store them? Former Special Counsel Jack Smith: No. Sen. BLUMENTHAL: Trump took those documents without safeguarding them in even the most minimal way.

Sen. COONS: Was it important for you to work with Republicans during your investigation? Former Special Counsel Jack Smith: Donald Trump preyed on party loyalty and fear. The strongest witnesses were Republicans, people like Rusty Bowers and Mike Pence, who did the right thing.

Sen. DURBIN: Is it fair to surmise that President Trump was in contact with some Members of Congress during January 6? Jack Smith: Yes. Members reached out to the White House asking, “Please help us. Please have your supporters stop attacking the Capitol.”

Former Special Counsel Jack Smith: I will not be silenced by threats of prosecution from the President. The rule of law will endure. Public servants have remained faithful to their oaths despite extraordinary pressure. While fear may be contagious, courage is as well.

Former Special Counsel Jack Smith: I am not a politician, and I have no partisan loyalty. I stand by my decision to bring charges against President Trump. I made those decisions without regard to his political association, activities, beliefs, or candidacy in the 2024 election.

Sen. DURBIN: Here are the facts. Jack Smith was tasked with investigating President Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his unlawful retention of classified documents. The President sought to subvert the will of the people while knowing he lost the election.

Sen. DURBIN: Tomorrow, the Senate Judiciary Committee is going to hear from Jack Smith. Mr. Smith is a nonpartisan career prosecutor appointed to investigate President Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election and retain classified government documents.

Sen. DURBIN: Listen to Judge Patrick Schiltz, who was nominated by President Bush. He found ICE violated hundreds of court orders in Minnesota. He said, "The rule of law to democracy is like oxygen to a human body. Without it you'll have authoritarianism. You have Russia, China, North Korea.”

Donald Trump continues to attack Americans’ right to vote because he knows his party can’t win on the issues. The Trump Administration’s flawed voter screening database is yet another example of this Administration’s disregard of constitutional rights.

Donald Trump spent months spreading the Big Lie and pressuring election officials and Members of Congress to help overturn the 2020 election. Jack Smith investigated this criminal effort. Finally, on Tuesday, Mr. Smith will be able to tell the Senate Judiciary Committee his story.

Sen. DURBIN: Justice Gregory Cook described identified himself as "Trump-Tough" and wrote, “Any Republican is better than any Democrat." Litigants who have different political views than Justice Cook have no reason to believe he will treat them fairly.

Sen. BOOKER: Could Flock be used to track and ultimately prosecute women who are accessing reproductive care? Privacy expert: That is completely correct. The AI will find Planned Parenthood clinics. They will look for patterns—who went to a doctor and then to a drugstore.

Diesel is more than $6 a gallon and the price of groceries and gas continues to rise.   But Senate Republicans again voted down a resolution disapproving of Trump’s Iran War which created this crisis.   Their inaction gave him a green light to continue his bungled conflict.

Sen. PADILLA: Can you explain how [Flock] agreements allow ICE to access data? Privacy expert: All it takes is one officer who is a customer of Flock and participates in their data sharing program. [They] get a call from an ICE agent that says, "Hey, can you run a search for me?”

An investigation into the Trump Administration’s rushed expansion of immigration detention found that they spent millions of taxpayer dollars on unused facilities. Their cruel mass deportation campaign is spending YOUR money to put immigrants into poorly run and deadly detention facilities.

Sen. DURBIN: If Republicans actually want to stand up for women in sports, they should address the real documented threats. Namely, unequal pay, failure to uphold title IX, rampant sexual abuse, and lack of equal resources for men's and women's teams.

Mother of ICE shooting victim: Ruben was a loving brother, uncle, nephew and friend. He had no criminal history. The months that followed his shooting were consumed by grief and frustration. We felt unheard, left without answers—knowing Ruben's death was unjust.

Sen. DURBIN: If you ask the American people what issues they hope Congress will address, this hearing would not be in the top 10. People are concerned about the cost of living. They are concerned about their utility and grocery bills. They want to know what we are doing about it.

Mother of Renée Good: I voted for Trump under the impression that these agents were here to protect the citizens of the United States against terrorists…certainly not to accuse those of us here of being terrorists and take precious lives. This is madness.

Sen. DURBIN: Judge Pemberton, you found the decision by the Oklahoma Supreme Court preserving a right to an abortion when a mother’s life is at risk to be remarkably troubling. Is that your view today? Trump Nominee: I was addressing the reasoning included in the Supreme Court's opinion.

While automated license plate reader technology has helped locate missing persons, stolen vehicles, and suspects, there are many cases of misuse leading to wrongful stops and/or arrests. Next week, the Senate Judiciary Committee will examine how this technology is being deployed across America.

Sen. SCHIFF: If a judge overturned decades of precedent because of their personal views, is that judicial activism? Trump Judicial Pick: Yes. Sen. SCHIFF: So, when SCOTUS overturned decades of precedent to reverse Roe V. Wade, wasn’t that judicial activism? Trump Pick: *dodges*

Judge Schiltz clerked for Justice Scalia and was appointed by President Bush. Yet even he could not believe ICE’s repeated violations of court orders during their terror campaign in Minneapolis. To hear him tell it, this Administration’s actions are “a grave threat to the rule of law.”

Sen. DURBIN: With midterms fast approaching, the Trump Admin is using DOJ’s vast resources to politicize that agency and interfere with the election. President Trump and AG Blanche have turned to intimidating state election officials and voters, even at polling places.
