xtralab has been my daily driver for software development for the past few months. It’s JupyterLab with opinionated defaults and pre-installed extensions for working with coding agents. I use it with Claude Code, Codex, and Pi most of the time. jtpio.github.io/xtralab

Contributing to open source also sometimes means playing the game of β€œwho’s going to get that random CI failure and have to fix it?” πŸ₯²

Recently I have been working on an opinionated JupyterLab metapackage for coding agents, called xtralab. It's basically JupyterLab with a set of extra extensions and curated defaults. If folks are interested, I may do a more in-depth video walkthrough soon! ➑️ Repo: github.com/jtpio/xtralab

The upcoming JupyterLab 4.6 release will let users customize the position of the activity bar in the left and right sidebars. Just another way to tweak the interface to your liking! πŸ› οΈ

Working on a new feature for the next JupyterLab 4.6 release that makes it easier to move panels and tabs across the interface and customize the layout to your liking. This is going to be useful for working with your favorite coding agent CLI right from within JupyterLab! πŸ€–

any-llm in action across three tools: β€’ JupyterLite AI: connect once, access multiple providers β€’ LangChain: swap models with a string β€’ Headroom: optimize context and keep provider choice Each one shows a different part of the same idea. Full breakdown: link.mozilla.ai/any-llm-inte...

One of the most common pieces of feedback from JupyterLite users is that it isn’t clear whether a file is server-provided or stored in the browser. Currently exploring ways to fix this with an improved UX. What do people think?

any-llm just got better. JupyterLiteAI connects through our OpenAI-compatible gateway. LangChain users install one package and switch models with a string. Headroom adds any-llm as a backend for context optimization. Read more: [https://link.mozilla.ai/any-llm-integrations

I just tried it. The fact that "input" now works is a major, major game changer. I just tried a few other things, and they all work perfectly -- certainly perfectly enough for my "Python for non-programmers" class. Wow. Kudos to the entire Jupyter team. I'm so impressed and delighted.

Coming soon in the next JupyterLite release: ℹ️ Improved kernel loading indicator Sometimes it can be difficult to know if there is an issue when starting a kernel, or if the kernel has finished loading. So we're working on making it easier to check the kernel state and access the logs.

If you would like to try the latest JupyterLab 4.4 release candidate and Jupyter Notebook 7.4 beta yourself: ➑️ pip install --pre jupyterlab notebook Please feel free to report issues if you find any, thanks! πŸ™
