On June 1, 2026, I played beside the ocean as the sun set. This is a popular spot for beach access and sunset-watching. During June, harpers may choose to participate in "Random Acts of Harping", an informal activity of playing in public somewhere. Photos are published in "The Folk Harp Journal".

I know, I know - other people's dreams are usually listened to with forbearance and feigned interest. Anyway... I dreamed I opened an art gallery for clever, witty, humorous artworks. I named it "Dry Paint".

A poke in the eye with a sharp stick! central serous retinopathy. It's a bump in the retina caused by fluid between layers in the back of the eye. Treatment is periodic injections into the eye. Aside from the "ick" factor, it's just barely uncomfortable. And don't call me Shirley.

I'm thankful that I lack an internal monologue; it would probably be ruthlessly critical. I'm even more thankful for friends and family who near-constantly fend off my insecurities and worth-doubts. (Don't tell them I said that - it'd make me feel that they were doing it out of obligation.)

I've returned to Bluesky. I had some health issues, am now recovering from a minor-to-medium surgery, and other life stuff got in the way of a lot social-media interaction. Did you miss me?

New Rx started yesterday, boom! - likely side-effect. Contacted Dr. (Far away) "Go to Urgent Care - could be serious." Went, closed 'til 3/10. Went to my PCP clinic, nurse triaged, said "Go to ER - could be serious." Went to ER, got poked and prodded, "See your PCP ASAP." Made appt for 3/6. Fun!

The synthesis program is "Ace Studio". Other programs used: Sibelius, iMovie. The arrangement makes extensive use of parallel fifths and octaves. Don't do this in your composition class.

My (rare) insomnia took me on a ride last night. Starting with pi, we visited the Basel problem, then to the zeta function and Ramanujan summation, with several side quests. I’m not the sharpest bulb in the dog-team, but I suspect this is not a common response to untimely wakefulness.

Preston Island is that flat reef-like structure center-right, the remains of a near-shore seastack that was quarried for rock for the harbor jetty, ca 1918. Though now not an island, it retains the name. Nobody wants to call it "Preston Tombolo". (No one knows who "Preston" was.)

Today I'll do my last harp concert of the season. It's a solo gig at the county library. We're in for some stormy weather, and there hasn't been much publicity. I'll have to move my harp and stuff between my car and the venue through wind and rain. Fun! Those who attend will enjoy it, I'm sure.

Last year, I (finally) got an "aluminum" (shiny plastic) tree. I had wanted one since I was a child, but my aesthetics were considered inferior; others always demanded a "traditional" tree. (It rankled.)

Today's concert went very well. I enjoyed it and even had some fun. I was one of several performers Next up is an all-ME solo concert at the Del Norte County library (main branch) in Crescent City, CA - 2024/12/22 1:00pm.

Mi Esposa has come down with a bad cold (no, she tested), so I'll attend the friend-group Thanksgiving by myself. I'm socially awkward and have to self-monitor to avoid saying something unintentionally inappropriate. It's difficult and takes away from my ability to be "there".

Overthinking: Another person and I were discussing ways to accomplish a task. They started to ask "Have you considered..." and broke off. "Of course you have." they said. Sometimes, it's a gift.

An ordinary story, but told in "crappy science fiction" style: “As I’m sure you know, Bob, the cellphone works as a short-range gigahertz-spectrum digital radio to connect with a network of antennae called cell towers, which allow the signal to travel long distances.”
