linkedin.comAngela YT Chan, In Between Green to Grey (2026), video and soundIn Between Green to Grey (2026) by artist-researcher Angela YT Chan is the artistic accompaniment to Green to Grey (2025) "a cross-border, collaborative data project about Europe's disappearing nature,” initiated by Arena for Journalism in Europe and the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK. The investigation used the satellite images of nature loss from across 52 cases of ecological destruction. These were originally gathered using a custom AI model to achieve new and more precise visual evidence on the true scale of ecological destruction in Europe between 2018 and 2023. The images shaped investigations by journalists from 11 European newsrooms about their country’s ecological loss for Green to Grey. This video artwork was created using these images through the processes of thermal printing, scanning, collaging and digital animation. These perform a speculative visual narrative that fill the gap between the ‘before and after’ evidence snapshots captured by the satellite images. The animation ponders on the policy, industrial and construction processes uncovered by the journalists that have turned these landscapes from green to grey. ⚠️ The decline of labour journalism is directly connected to the difficulties of working in journalism, as our Paper, published this week, shows. Another piece published this week, from #IJ4EU, is pertinent: investigativejournalismforeu.net/why-journali...

investigativejournalismforeu.netWhy journalism grants can put freelancers at a disadvantage - IJ4EUWhen Romanian investigative journalist Andrei Petre began researching secrecy surrounding European data centres in 2025, he had documents, a story idea and, eventually, an interested publisher.

📣 Our latest Arena Paper is out, on the decline of labour journalism: 'The invisibles': Why we need to talk about work. While it is possible to trace good, regular, in-depth reporting about labour, these stories are now rare; labour desks are, in effect, extinct.  🧵 👇 [1/3]

Our research shows: 📉 Covid drew labour to the top of the agenda, but coverage has not rallied 🔎 Labour is not seen as a 'sexy' beat, eclipsed by 'prestige' topics such as conflict and politics 🤝🏽 Because labour is a transnational phenomenon, the biggest opportunity for remedy is cross-border support
