Bewildered by the naming of the WA 'Millionaires Tax'… It's a tax on INCOME over $1M, not WEALTH over $1M! Plenty of businesspeople, doctors, engineers etc. hold over $1M and qualify as 'millionaires'. Only a tiny fraction make $1M in income. Is the name going to make dentists vote against the tax?

Fusion Q: Why does pressing "enter" a bunch and seeing lock icons not not result in a rectangle with constrained dimensions?

I just really crave good tech criticism, where by good, I mean they're always right, they're never disproven by future developments, and they agree with me about everything

the easiest way to get to this document is through my website, so I just download it every time. this is interesting. should my local file storage be more like a website? or is there a way of accessing this thing on the web that feels less like "downloading"?

The verses in "Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying" follow a really simple prosody and then in the third verse they hit you with: Oh, that wasn't what I meant to say at all From where I'm sitting, rain Falling against the lonely tenement Has set my mind to wander IDK why but it takes my breath away.

I'm in a weird place where for some reason (?) I think it's inappropriate to pass off AI-generated writing as one's own, but I see it absolutely everywhere now. So I wonder: is everyone trying to pull a fast one on me? or do they just have different standards of acceptable behavior and it's nbd?

Examples: - social-media call-out post ("That hurt, and I'm not going to soften it.") - statement from grieving sister ("To me, he wasn’t just my brother. He was my closest person.") - academic paper rebuttals - party invite I feel like I'm going crazy over here.

just realized that I type "x" with my left index finger, resulting in a much larger hand motion than for any other letter. (I type "z" with my left ring finger.)

design venting: Spotify made the top result of a search (1) look different than all the other results, (2) have a faded-out background so it looks especially irrelevant / skippable, (3) have its play button on the right side instead of the left, just to make sure your muscle memory is defeated.

Strava on Android randomly closes when I'm recording an activity and doesn't record until I reopen it. I have all the battery things turned to "please don't close this". What do I do. 🥺

"Museum exhibit" is an immersive, architectural medium. Most art in museums isn't native to this medium. It's transplanted via hermetic enclosures: frames on walls, plexiglass boxes on pedestals. "Installation art" really just means art meant for this medium, art that knows it's in a museum.

This was a really fun project that came together beautifully. Great work @spiralganglion.com & co.! Here are two letters I made the night before the due date:

Here are some of the letters I made for Tenfold, the fun little "birthday party" we're having as Ink & Switch turns 10 years old. • a catenoid, designed by todd matthews and coded by me • gizmos, from inkling • "enbossed" • a sphere made of circles, eclipsed 🤍 inkandswitch.com/project/tenf...

Found in "Thinking Physics". Was Epstein very wrong or very silly? (FWIW, there IS an etymological connection here! "Calculus" comes from "calx", Latin for limestone. Then you use that to describe counting with stones, and weird rocky build-ups in the body.)

Recurring pattern in math: embed X inside some kind of (X → Y) → Y (via the eval. map X → (X → Y) → Y), and then expand your view to more points of the codomain – "virtual elements of X": - distributions - Stone–Čech compactification - metric completion - continuations Q: More examples? A name?

When there's a song on an album that has the same name as the album and there's a moment in the song when they say the name of the song (which is also the name of the album), it's very powerful. It feels like ley lines converging.

I think there's a widespread issue where people map their experience interpreting poll numbers – 53% means you're probably going to win, 25% means no way in hell – onto prediction market odds – 53% means it's a coin flip, 25% means it's two coin flips. Maybe they'll figure it out eventually? 🤷

You would think that internalizing a cutting critic of your own work and personality would help you get by in life but I haven't found this to be the case. 🤔

unremittingly obsessed with Luca Tóth's "Vegan Mayo" after seeing it last weekend at @seasluganimation.bsky.social. it's a real novelty for me to have something stuck in my head and no way to relive it on demand! watching weird short films at festivals gives a rare taste of media scarcity. love it.

Do you make drag-and-drop interfaces? Or do you wish you did, but they're just too hard? We're working on a new way to drag & drop! Wanna try it out? Join our study – we'll ask you about your drag-and-drop experiences, and get your hands on the prototype. Join here: forms.gle/J82tFtu6DqS8.... 🙏!

someone made a webpage where the scrollbar is a little worm that does a scrunchy caterpillar walk when you scroll, and contents expand and contract accordingly. I love it but I can't find it anymore. anyone got a link? (it might have had some "would you still love me if I was a worm" branding?)

Big divide forming between social UIs where time goes down and social UIs where time goes up. You need to decide which side you are on. You can't be neutral on a moving train.
