Navigation is the primary way that you interact with a site, so when we created the new site for thatch, we wanted to make sure we built it the right way. See the details on animation, accessibility, and mobile we added for our site. #designsky thatch.dev/blog/sweatin...

thatch.devSweating the details: Navigation | Under the ThatchNavigation is the first thing people touch on a site, and it's where a lot of them cut corners. Here is how we sweated the details while rebuilding Thatch.com for our rebrand, from accessible keyboard...

A major rebrand for thatch.com that we have been working on for the last few months is finally launched. Some really great animations on the site and I'm really proud of the feel of this design. #designsky

I think it's really common for folks to add neat details like this to their site like Mercury, Ramp, or Figma right clicking their home page logos, but it's frequently at the expense of browser capabilities. Trying something where we keep browser link options and append brand links.

Apple Music radio is like, oh radio station for Duran Duran? I gotchu here’s dua lipa. Oh childish gambino radio? Here’s dua lipa. You’re wanting new age synth sounds? Believe it or not, dua lipa

So many ai built sites lately that use so much animation. It’s like when someone discovered PowerPoint animated transitions for the first time and felt the need to Star Wars swipe every slide.

Leveraging modes, I reduced a token collection that was 240 tokens to only 60. This removes tokens like text-on-danger, text-danger and instead designers focus on what the token is doing in the surface rather than the state its in, this follows patterns from mode.place. #designsky

Who could have guessed that all companies relying on a single solution for their hosting could have ramifications for the internet? Save us Lina Khan, you're our only hope.

Disney/ABC have a responsibility to refuse to participate in corruption. Kimmel must be reinstated. If Disney/ABC agree to this extortion then perhaps creatives + workers should consider collective action to push back. Same w/buying park + cruise tickets if they bow. People have power. Ask Target

I don't understand Venmo public payments. Like who is this for? I feel like it'd only cause drama with people who owe money or weren't invited to some social thing.

The other part of this Nebraska story is that while they are saying there’s a significant deficit, they have also been trying to kill legalizing marijuana which passed by vote last election. And passed by vote the election before.

WWDC overview: - MacOS Vista now possible thanks to apple silicon - House flipper 2 now baked into Vision OS - iPadOS almost MacOS but without the ability to code on it

I feel like the design community no longer doing wireframes and other information architecture practices was a mistake. It’s like designing a buildings facade without thinking about how the building can stand on its own.

This #GAAD and every GAAD, you can champion #accessibility by hiring accessibility specialists, paying them well, ensuring they have what they need to be successful and make a change, and by not putting their heads on the chopping block first whenever layoffs roll around. #a11y

It's so frustrating the design community is still over on X. Like they are the only major platform with a song celebrating hitler unbanned and y'all are cool with that?

United just sent me an email that there’s nothing to be worried about flying in and out of Newark. I am now worried about flying in and out of Newark.

@bsky.app Could y'all make the accessibility alt text setting something done at the account level rather than client level? For a marketing team that potentially has multiple users and clients, it's very easy for someone to not have the setting enabled.

The US federal government was actually less wasteful than most big companies and other large organizations, not least because government had an amazing asset: highly experienced, educated, knowledgeable, talented people choosing public service when they could make a lot more in the private sector.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

what is fascinating to me is the number of people whose “knowledge” of government appears to just be an accumulation of cliches and stereotypes + an inchoate sense that if something is big and costly then it must necessarily be “wasteful”

Also, I've yet to see a virtualization library that plays nice with VoiceOver. NVDA sort of works in focus mode and is correct in browse mode so long as you traverse slowly....It's a hard problem to solve, makes me miss the days when HTML was HTML and there was no VDOM.

Apparently Target is doing layoffs due to the boycott. So like instead of fixing your issues, you’re going to make your product even worse by making your stores an employee ghost town and under stocked. Good luck with that 👋

Sent real feedback to a company and got the most ai generate nonsense “we hear you” response ever… Can someone just develop a sleep band that doesn’t suck please?

It's total bullshit that Bumble BFFs only gives you same gender recommendations. Apparently they added it for a short while and then removed it. Like, I can't even be friends with someone who is nonbinary?

I feel like a heart to like something doesn’t feel great in 2025. I think the upvote strategy works well because you can upvote something you disagree with or want more visibility for. I just don’t love hearting posts about how everything is going to hell.

AI performance reviews. Certainly nothing can go wrong here. Shopify employees are going to start getting pip’d for their incorrect use of paperclips and using too many big words.

AI code gen will always be inaccessible because it was trained on an inaccessible web. Unless you're building your own LLM, it's generating garbage and just generating new barriers.

Also, if you're relying on a library that touts itself as accessible, but doesn't have funding to be accessible or fix accessibility issues...it's likely not generating accessible code.

The only reaching across the aisle democrats should be doing is to punch a nazi. Any democrat that hosts racists or nazis will never get a vote from me. We need to be fighting fascism not propping it up.

@una.im was going through your select component customization article. Something I was wondering is if controlling the positioning of the dropdown itself was under consideration. Figma has a Mac OS style select where the selected option is offset to the trigger.
