Peak Lincoln Riley will be scoring on this final drive and talking about how it was important to find something to build on.

It’s so fascinating that no one is saying BYU is playing beat up after a tough game with ND last week like they do with all the SEC teams

Shout out to Zach!

“Leopard eat faces” and all that. I don’t say this because I expect anyone to have empathy or sympathy for those people who are finally reaping what they’ve sown. I say this because for most people in this country… we simply cannot grasp that level of disconnection from life.

There are going to consequences. Accountability for your choices is an important part of maturity and truly becoming an adult. But as a pastor I can tell you… everybody gets older, only some grow up.

They assumed this was normal. Voting and political advocacy were performative in the sense that “I support Red/Blue. If we win I celebrate. If we don’t, *darn* we’ll try again tomorrow.” But nothing fundamentally changed about their everyday life. That is changing very quickly.

It started with a question: If it was so easy to start a private school in some states — and even access public money — could we as @propublica reporters do it? Find out what @jenniferberryhawes.bsky.social, @jsmithrichards.bsky.social and I learned: www.propublica.org/article/prop...

The announcers and pundits all have skin in the game to protect the culture that rewards them for protecting it. Nobody told them to… they are intrinsically motivated to “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it" - Upton Sinclair

So, it is easy to build a culture that denigrates the survivors and whistleblowers and protectors and celebrates or at least tolerates predators, rapists and abusers because they “produce” and impact the bottom line

Deshaun Watson is a perfect example. When he sucked, he was tolerated. And was a little bit of a joke. Not that he is producing on the field, there is a chorus who long to celebrate him, horrific behavior be damned.

Culture develops around what you celebrate, what you tolerate and what you denigrate. And in the case of rehabbing Deshaun Watson, it’s a specific feature of rape culture in sports. “Think of this boy’s future…”

From a soul level, I think it also speaks to an American (societal) culture that values production over people. A culture that disdains the vulnerable or anyone “weak” because they do not directly contribute enough to the bottom line. It’s dehumanizing. And from my theological perspective, evil.

This thread is so good and puts into words many of things I’ve felt recently about community and living for something beyond yourself. Especially “à la carte living”. That’s a perfect phrase.

a catch is when a possession consists of at least one football move, unless there is first intent that can clearly be observed. the if the intent is observed concurrently with the possession, the ball carrier must first establish zone in space. zone in space is an acquiescence of one's football self

Nobody would love Oregon to suck more than me. Nobody. But they do this 2-3 times per year. At least once in a meaningless game. And then another time in a big game. I am not convinced this is anything new.

There are currently no active conversations for a full ‘MUPPET SHOW’ series revival. Disney, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures have had difficulties with deciding on a premise for the series that they can all agree on. (Source: Deadline)
