RIP Walter Koenig. My main memory of him will always be the splendidly filthy joke he told with not a little flair and style to entertain the crowds during a fire alarm at a B5 convention up in Blackpool.

The kneecapping of the BBC Is a horrific exercise in avoiding to pay for anything and hoping “efficiency savings” are enough to get by. Just fucking fund the BBC properly.

A brief look at two very different reviews of Doctor Who by the two very different men who reviewed it for The Spectator at the turn of the 1970s. Free to read on the site, but you can always pick up a free or paid subscription while you're there. buttondown.com/cooray_smith...

Two Steve Cole talks for the price of one: one on the recently discovered The Vampire Mutation and a history of how the new series Targets came about. #TargetBookDay

And we finish with Professor Esther MacCallum Stewart, intent on constructing a Target out of Targets via the medium of Choose Your Own Adventure and also announcing her Black Archive on The Giggle. Even when running events, James Goss loves some format breaking. #TargetBookDay

Julian Richards with a delightful and personal tribute to his dad. Naturally, a massive and heartfelt round of applause follows. #TargetBookDay

Robert Crighton being beautifully funny about the Very Serious Subject of Doctor Who and the Zarbi. This isn’t even the best joke in the talk. #TargetBookDay

Superman 2, late 80/early 81, Newport Odeon (though might’ve been the 1&2). Probably just a general impression of the wonder of Reeve’s Superman and his unerring ability to do the right thing.

First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.

The Timewyrm trudge continues with what, in retrospect, is the last book of an old era. But is it a dead end or a last great flowering of a particular form?

Joe Ford@docoho44.bsky.social

It's the third instalment in the Timewyrm series and after the middling response to the first two, is this where it all turns around? Stank Nuggets! @jonarnold.bsky.social @dwcoverstory.bsky.social @lshyphenj.bsky.social podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/h...

On this day in 2017, I went to BBC TVC to collect my auction lot from the big sell off. And there I met the BBC2 idents of my youth. Star struck.
