Glad to see this work finally out! A joy working with the incredible Nurun Fancy to figure out the interaction between TREM2 and CD33, how TREM2 variants differ and what happens to other cell types in cases with TREM2 variants. Thanks to everyone involved in the study, it was a great team effort!

Could a protective gene counteract risk of Alzheimer's in people with a high-risk gene variant? 🧬 Researchers led by Dr @jojacksonhere.bsky.social revealed how TREM2 – a well-known Alzheimer’s risk gene – interacts with CD33, a gene that can reduce disease risk. ukdri.ac.uk/news-and-eve...

Could improving the way we collect & store brain tissue help better preserve it for research? A study by Dr @jojacksonhere.bsky.social & Prof Paul Matthews (UK DRI at Imperial) with researchers at McGill University reveals temperature plays a greater role than previously thought👉 lnkd.in/eG6yqJzD

Pleasure to collaborate with Jo Anne Stratton @theneuro.bsky.social funded by @hbhlmcgill.bsky.social and @ukdri.ac.uk. We show that post mortem processing conditions have differential effects on the brain's transcriptome. And temperature may play more of a role in good quality brain tissue.

🧠 Temperature may matter more than time when it comes to preserving brain tissue after death – new research from @imperialmed.bsky.social could change how #brain banks work. 👉 www.imperial.ac.uk/news/article... @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social @mcgill.ca @theneuro.bsky.social @ukdri.ac.uk

the number of deadlines I have for the first 10 days of January is incredible...grant reviews, grant rebuttals, reference requests, marking...anyone would think that academics don't need a winter break...sigh

Was fun...and hot 🥵

We have a new paper alert🎉 This work compiles all reported protein changes in the cerebrospinal fluid of Alzheimer’s patients across studies using mass spectrometry, Olink, and SomaScan platforms. Check it out here: academic.oup.com/braincomms/a... #Alzheimers

Super proud of my PhD student, Tatiana, for being chosen as an @istaart.bsky.social Ambassador!

ISTAART@istaart.bsky.social

Delighted to welcome our new class of ISTAART Ambassadors for 2025! This year's 43 Ambassadors represent 27 countries across the globe. They'll work with us at #AAIC25 Toronto & online & we'll be mentoring them over the next year! Meet them at alz.org/ISTAARTambassadors @alzassociation.bsky.social

I don’t think many of my American scientist friends will leave the US despite the recent political changes affecting the NIH. But if they were interested, they should apply to become centre director here in Cardiff! www.ukdri.ac.uk/vacancies/ce...

Taken together, we believe we have derived a pseudotemporal profile of synaptic changes in human AD and shown that they are associated with changes in the astrocyte proteome, particularly that of PAPs. 5/6

This opens up new synaptic tragets and avenues for the therapeutic targeting of synapses in AD. This was a great team effort by Jessica Griffiths joint with Seth Grant lab, Eleonore Scheegans and the UKDRI MAP team. The end. 6/6

Mitochondrial proteomic changes dominated in the low pathology region, inhibitory changes in the mid pathology region and widespread synaptic transmission pathways were most prominant in the higher pathology region. 3/6

Alongside these synaptic changes, we found a astrcoyte signature that was enriched for proteins at the peri-synaptic astrocytic processes (PAPs). This astrocyte signature increased with pathology and was associated with reduced synaptic resilience. 4/6

Hello World! New here, and a little bit scared of having to rebuild the Twitter network, but here we go: I'm a group leader at UK DRI and @kingsioppn.bsky.social. My lab works on #epigenetics in neurodegenerative diseases, to understand non-coding genetic and environmental risk factors 🧬🧠

nice to see so many people coming over from the other side...welcome! 👋 I'm Jo, a group leader @ UKDRI @ Imperial studying all things synapses in neurodegeneration. Tweet about synapses, multi-'omics, human 🧠 tissue, 🔬imaging and EDI #WomenInSTEM Anyone have a synapse starter pack? #neuroskyence

first week here and a couple of points/questions: 1. really nice to see some familiar people who dropped off twitter🤩 2. everyone seems friendly/constructive...long may that continue🤞 3. I have a 'science' tab at the top and, whilst I love general science, how can I see more neuroscience/biology?🧪

You are up to date.
