It's gotta be so peaceful being a total fucking idiot—you can saw whatever you want and as far as you know, it's true!

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

These people don’t want to win; they don’t even want to persuade. They want a world where they are a pure and rarified elite, with none of the responsibilities of actual power, only the smug gratification of being right.

Saw THE SHINING last night on the big screen, and for all that's been written and speculated about this movie, at the end it's about a guy who pretty openly despises his wife and barely tolerates his son and malevolent forces use his contempt to push him over the edge.

Times have been tough in this Ohio town ever since the woke mob closed the old Cheesecake Factory. So when Vivek Ramaswamy promised to legalize child rape, they finally had something to cheer about again. But then Obama said something elitist.

all of this has always been about getting back at the uppity women who wouldn’t fuck them

“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

Finally—FINALLY!—a good article about parental estrangement and its role in MAGA politics. The 2024 article linked inside is also excellent.

Amanda Marcotte@amandamarcotte.bsky.social

In MAGA, parental estrangement is a big issue — and parents are held out as blameless victims. I suspect that's one reason why Vivek Ramaswamy ran an ad celebrating Amy Acton's vile mother. And why MAGA — including Vance and Trump — are backing him. www.salon.com/2026/10/23/r...

I want everyone to internalize that these fucking "A.i." companies are inflicting this shit on us KNOWINGLY. They're doing this to us. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHATEVER HAPPENS. No bailout for these creeps, ever. Let their companies and their wealth and reputation evaporate forever.

wrote about "Black October," the PHP vulnerability, and the AI-fueled dread and panic I'm seeing among almost all of the cybersecurity experts I've ever known. I think people w/ LLMs are brute forcing software the same way they brute forced social media w/ slop www.404media.co/php2shell-bl...

When people repeated the dumb fake story about the cast not knowing that the alien would pop out of John Hurt's chest, Skerritt would say, "Of course we knew, we read the script." RIP to an all-timer, especially The Dead Zone and M*A*S*H

NEW YORK (AP) — Tom Skerritt, a durable character actor with roles in 'Picket Fences,' 'Alien' and 'Top Gun,' dies.

I can't even fathom staying at an Airbnb again. I like hotels, where they don't openly hate my guts and don't charge me a cleaning fee that is often higher than the actual room.

Caroline Haskins@carolinehaskins.bsky.social

Airbnb is banning its hosts from making guests do things like “stripping the bed, taking trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes.” The hosts....are not taking it well: www.wired.com/story/airbnb...

Sure, prices have gone up but you have to balance that against none of the streamers having the movie you actually want to watch most of the time. Oh, and they all have ads now.

A Florida man was found dead in his home during a welfare check in July 2022. Weeks later, one of the officers who discovered his body moved into the home and spent years impersonating him, according to investigators.

I just got laid off from my full-time job, which is awful. If you're looking to hire someone (or know someone looking to hire someone) who's excellent at writing, editing, communications in general, and/or cultural criticism, email me at mousterpiececinema at gmail dot com. Don't be shy! Seriously.

The "nearly a decade" thing for a 21-year-old is sending me. Anyway, when is the Post gonna profile me, a 50-year-old who's never been stupid enough to vote for Trump? There are millions of us, do we not count?

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Michael Fusella supported President Trump for nearly a decade. But as the Iran war drags on and the cost of living continues to climb, the 21-year-old Republican said he feels betrayed by a president who said he’d end overseas conflicts and lower prices.

Just going to be straight here — no pun intended: I am the only journalist who has been covering this issue in depth, was often the only journalist at hearings, and was the only one explaining what DOJ was actually arguing here. Support my work if you can: www.lawdork.com/subscribe

BREAKING: SCOTUS rejects Trump admin's request to allow it to end gender-affirming medical care in prisons — a significant, if tentative, rejection of one of the admin's most extreme anti-trans arguments. Only Thomas and Alito noted they would have granted the stay. More to come: www.lawdork.com

It's extremely weird and arrogant to tag someone in your negative review of their work, the equivalent of following someone around with a megaphone to force them to hear what you think. Be normal on this app!

This also aligns with Hegseth's public execution. A majority of Americans support capital punishment because they see it as justice for committing murder. But Republicans are so stuck in their freakish little bubble they think the average person is out here going, "Wish I could throw the switch!"

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

The attack ad against Acton is another in a long list of right-wing gotchas that have blown up in their face -- Eric Schmitt's attack on Jack Smith, the conspiracy that Talarico was in rehab, Tommy's heckling of El-Sayed, etc etc. Their echo chambers keep convincing them to do incredibly dumb shit

the idea that empathy is dangerous has been permeating right-wing spaces for a while, but it's not an actual element of their ideology as much as it's a defense mechanism against confronting the reality of their cruelty

I'm not sure how much more blatant it can get that these guys are looting the federal government and then pointing over there and saying "look what THOSE BLACK PEOPLE ARE GETTING AWAY WITH!!!" bsky.app/profile/atru...

Stephen Miller claims Somali-Americans in Minnesota are "buying Mercedes, buying BMWs, they buy a nice house, all their kids fly first class all over the world" (This is a lie!)

This reminds me of the incredible "bookcase" in Last Crusade at the library.

the other fun movie fact that always bubbles up in my head (and I'm sure everyone knows this one) is that for one very brief shot in Raiders Todt is just a hat sitting on a coat in a car seat

With the election looming, the GOP is calling in the big guns. Which means having a megachurch freak named Timmy dispatch an army of walleyed 23yo home-school casualties with YouTube diction to opposing candidates' rallies, where they will demand those candidates reject and denounce the WNBA.

You can see the "Rosebud" sled that Joe Dante once owned hanging up in the Klopek's basement when Art runs downstairs to tell Ray to get out of the house. That sled sold for $14.75 million last year.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.
