@siyuan-feng.bsky.social led this project developing a new statistical framework that leverages replication to better estimate quantitative trait differentiation (QST) and identify potential locally adaptive traits. Next goal is to apply it to multi-omic data (chromatin/RNA/protein). Stay tuned!

Bet you didn't have "John Pool starts youtube channel" on your 2026 bingo card! Emphasis on native landscaping / sustainability, & evolution/genetics for a general audience. If you watch, please let it play through (else youtube thinks it's bad). Feel free to share! www.youtube.com/channel/UCj8...

"In mid-August, as Britain emerged from its 5th heatwave of the summer, I visited a government building and doused it with a fire extinguisher. You might think that’s a strange thing for a scientist to do, and I’d completely agree with you. But these are strange times, desperate times..."

Here's a quick and cool cheat-sheet on all the competitions, eligibility, deadlines (just realizing the dates I wrote above were the opening dates, not the deadlines: please consult the links I posted for the correct dates and more details of why you should absolutely apply)
My lab has an open staff position. It's for 1 year; could be nice for a recent grad building up their experience. But please share promptly: apps due by end of Thursday! The focus is on variation among labs' copies of common lab stocks like Canton-S & Oregon-R. jobs.wisc.edu/jobs/researc...

I am one of today’s 10000 - because I’ve only just seen this @xkcd.com comic & it is simply brilliant.
The 2 of us are in CPH ahead of #SMBE2026, currently staying on a docked boat! Special thanks to SMBE for offering child care - without that and caregiver support in '23, I wouldn't have made it to either of these meetings. Also, I'm extending this postdoc opening until 7/7: tinyurl.com/mtwx7te3

Had the best conference experience at #PEQG26 with my lab @pool-lab.ecoevo.social.ap.brid.gy. Truly enjoyed hanging out with great science and people here. Thanks to @genetics-gsa.bsky.social, organizers and the awesome community who made it special!

Loved PEQG - lots of great science, yet everyone's in one space, and so many old friends to catch up with. Amazing pre-conference travel too... Dramatic coast, giant redwoods, marine mammals galore (elephant seals, otters, ORCAS, etc). If you're really curious: photos.app.goo.gl/qiXngo1exh8E...
So good to be at #PEQG26 ! * Congrats to PhD student @siyuan-feng.bsky.social on giving 2 talks (DNA->music and evol. multi-omics) within ~16 hours! * Look for posters by Jamie Freeman and Myron Child. * Searching for a postdoc! Glad to talk here at PEQG, online, or later this month at #SMBE2026
My lab at the University of Wisconsin - Madison is searching for a postdoc! Multiple project directions are possible based on applicant interests. We have a really nice group of population / evolutionary genetics labs in Madison, and it's also a great place to live. www.evoldir.net/brian/evoldi...
You are up to date.
