Well if I haven’t been saying this for nearly 20 years. Glad someone figured it out. Just a little bit of service design goes a long way.

One university found student retention greatly improved when it made a few tweaks to its campus environment, fostering a warmer and more connected culture. Here’s how: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/campus/how-establish-culture-care-campus #Highered #Academicsky

I miss having fun with work. Last week I publicly relaunched SpeedyU. For 3 years I've been tracking speed and a11y performance of higher ed websites. This new v2 of speedyu.com includes way more data. For free. And soon I'll be offering paid deep dives and competitor insights.

speedyu.comSpeedyU — University website rankingsSpeedyU is a free, independent ranking of university and college websites on speed, accessibility, best practices, and SEO, measured weekly with Google Lighthouse across 4,690 institutions. The typica...

it's safe to say that dark patterns won. all the dark patterns won and we lost and that's that.

This book is so good. Can’t wait to listen to this convo.

@alixdunn.com sat down with @carissaveliz.bsky.social to talk about her new book, ‘Prophecy.’ She walks us down the well-worn path of prediction as a political tool: power brokers using forecasts to bend the future towards their will by convincing the rest of us that it’s destiny, not marketing.

Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.

Replying to @ptklein.com

The goal of AI isn’t actually to make your job easier. It’s to extract your labor and our resources faster to increase their corporate and personal profits.

I really wish someone more researched than me would do a giant campaign on failed right-wing strategies for economic growth. Seems all (most of) the theories Republicans have touted for decades have been proven wrong in just the past two years.

[linkedin voice] not using ai as good as other people? you’re already hopelessly behind. in fact you are truly desperate, like a pathetic little worm wriggling helplessly in the dirt. reply WORM and i’ll send you the link for $3000/month

yep. almost my entire career has been in enterprise software, trying to understand how people made things and especially made decisions and using those insights to make people's jobs a bit easier, and then the last few years have been about how to just cut the humans out of the equation completely.

Some of us didn’t get into tech for the tech. The tech was only interesting because it connected us with our fellow humans. Seems like there’s no place for us anymore.

Remember when we won a trophy and then wasted that momentum because we apparently wanted to sit bottom of the prem table for at least two more seasons? #coys

I've tried to talk about this at the company I work at. Have I said how hard it is to go from owning an agency (being a builder, strategy, product person), to doing strict marketing when you don't necessarily agree with product direction? It's hard. Even harder with an MA in media studies.

But this idea that moving interfaces to chat or LLM-generated is lossy and noisy, when before we had very clear input mechanisms (navigation, buttons to click, hyperlinking), then causes more inefficiency is it. That's what I've been trying to land on. Anyway, big fan of @reckless.bsky.social

Remembered that once song I wrote and recorded in college and listened to it. I still like it. Might need to tweak some lyrics and remaster it this year.

PabloReports: What do you make of Trump saying Americans who oppose data centers are backwards and poor? AOC: I mean, how about we put one in Mar-a-Lago? I love that. Let’s put a data center at Mar-a-Lago, and we’ll see how backwards and poor he is in response to that.

I’ve thought about this for higher education. Why not consortium-managed models tailored to what HS needs rather than the generalist, environment-destroying corporate models universities have been suckered into purchasing?

Anil Dash@anildash.com

I have not seen much conversation about worker-owned AI models, nor have I seen any unions talking about collectively-owned platforms, but that's what a good alternative should look like. I do understand people will say that sounds insane; It usually takes about 7 years until people think I'm sane.
