Allen also wants to insert a mandate - saying workforce development needs to directly consult the employees not just the businesses owners and business community. "Keep this work grounded in our people," Allen tells staff.

The #PimaSupes are expected to (finally) approve the adoption of the Economic Development Strategic Plan 2026-2029. This item has been on and off the agenda for at least two months, with staff tweaking the plan after getting feedback from elected officials and county staff.

Pima County Supervisor (and board chair) Jennifer Allen calls the economic development plan is ambitious for a "young" department. Referencing Project Blue, she argues the county and its economic development plan need to re-earn the trust of the community.

Christy isn't done fighting, asking County Administrator Jan Lesher for how much it costs to hold night meetings. Lesher said she will get Christy a number, but didn't have a figure on tap.

Supervisor Heinz says he wants to keep the night meetings. Supervisor Christy says the meetings are disruptive for some people, noting some meetings have gone beyond the 8:30 p.m. "limit." This is the first time I've heard of a "limit."

We are powering through the agenda, I am guessing we will be wrapping up in the next 15 minutes. Until then how about a lightning ask-me-anything round, please only #PimaSupes questions.

The speaker spent some time on her speech to the #PimaSupes, saying everyone in her coven agrees that Pima County shouldn't reward companies for profiting on the construction of the border wall.

The argument is to "divest" from Sundt, canceling any/all contracts with the company. I've written about this years ago, but at the city of Tucson. Under state procurement rules, the city of Tucson (and Pima County) can't simply blacklist companies.

#CallToThePublic starts now. The first speaker is upset that Pima County has a contract with Sundt (for road construction) and the same time having a contract with the feds to build the border wall. They remind the #PimaSupes of their resolutions against the construction of the border wall.

And finally, my sincere apologies to anyone whose name I don't spell correctly, I don’t have any ability to review speaker cards before or during today's meeting. It's always my best guess.

The clerk for the board just announced #Item21 has been pulled off the agenda. Thankfully, #Item2 on the addendum agenda - also related to the hiring of the next county administrator.

As someone who has been to hundreds of public meetings, call to the audience is a mix of both performative political speech and authentic public pleas by the community to their elected leaders.

The big one is that I am not going to repeat what every speaker says. There are a number of reasons, but the big one is this is a form of journalism (maybe some commentary) not stenography. There is a handy YouTube feed if you want the full experience....

I am also concerned about repeating statements that may contain misinformation, opinion presented as facts, and what I will gently call hate speech. Sometimes I can fact-check something, but I am rarely a Subject Matter Expert on items at call to the public.

A few random thoughts before this part of the #PimaSupes meeting starts. Since it is the only part of the meeting where anything can happen, anything can be said, I feel like I need to lay out what I will and will not repeat.

All five #PimaSupes are here, but Pima County Supervisor Steve Christy is attending remotely. A stray ray of light is giving some dramatic lighting to the lone Republican supervisor.
