"Remember when you lived in the city? The hustle and bustle infiltrated every cell in your body. You even had a MetroCard. Then you moved here. You gave up. I will not reward that kind of mediocrity. You’re lucky I even stay open." buff.ly/8tQYIFy

If you show me any picture of a wizened little old bald guy in glasses and say it’s William S. Burroughs I will believe you.

I don’t really hear the word “clown” much in everyday conversation, but it comes up in early Velvet Underground songs a lot. Do you think they used it so much just to be mean to Nico since she couldn’t pronounce it?

Guitar facts: Wahwah pedals are super fun to use but downright embarrassing to talk about. This also applies to whammy bars.

That part of recovering from a minor back injury where the weird involuntary tweaking and favoring you’re doing as a result of your original injury starts to create new minor strains and cricks in other, previously uninjured parts of your back.

Professor Harold Hill awakens to find he’s a captive in a small Midwestern town. The tight-lipped, insular residents call it River City. Who are the prisoners? Who are the wardens? Patrick McGoohan is THE MUSIC MAN. With: Leo McKern as the Mayor and Buddy Hackett as Rover

Last year it was a torrential rainstorm, this year it’s new puppies, but fate continues to bar me from the Drive-In Super Monster-Rama. You must go in my stead. Tell them I’ll see them next year!

Counting the minutes until my son and I hit the road west for this wonderful extravaganza 🤩

Unironically the best thing ever to be made for television, possibly the best piece of dramatic art that isn’t weirdly canonized and thus unjudgeable like Shakespeare or Chekov. NGL I’m kinda mad it was ranked lower than Mad Men and Game of Thrones.

in my talk today, as an example of the strange things you can do in comics given their sequential but also spatial/simultaneous nature, I included this gonzo panel from 1950s Batman, which I just love in all its weirdness! Yes, I have more intentionally clever examples, but something about this...

Looking thru a pdf instruction manual for The Mangler on internet archive. “The most important rule is have fun, and don’t get Mangled!”

We got a puppy cam so we could see when the puppies wake up, but the side effect is that I now have a button I can press on my phone at work that is more or less guaranteed to show me live video of a sleeping puppy. Friends my will has never been so tested.

Day two of new puppies and I literally cannot imagine having a life that isn’t just a marathon of chaos and constraints ever again.

The whole thing feels like it should be non canon and has been intentionally forgotten. Thor also reforges Mjolnir in the mystical land of Pittsburgh.

I always like “Humans are super-abstract math monsters that don’t understand real feelings” is an underused Sci-Fi thing: “Jones can instantly tell you how many eggs are in these ten crates of 1 dozen each, but his art is all about mating and weird rhythmic noises with numerical tonal relationships”

Thinking of sci-fi niches for the human race that aren't "adaptable," which is the coward's choice. I feel like we'd be famous for being good physicists. Splitting the atom before sending a human into space feels like it would be a rare sequence of events.

Man a lot of Billy Joel songs are just grumpy old man grievances. I should record an iconic piano rocker about the trash trucks being too loud in the morning.

Lukewarm take: I feel a lot of pessimism about the present is built on not realizing just how bad the past was. Like if you just read a book about poverty in a first-world country in the 1950s it's staggeringly worse than now.

It is one of my life’s little ironies that this game combines an art and production design style that are perfectly my jam™️ with actual gameplay style for which I am hopelessly and permanently incompetent.

NP: Control (2019) - I've seen this played so I know what to expect, I just don't know how well I'll be able to play it.

ANDRE: And it was transcendent. Nintendo’s ever done anything like it. Wally, you’ll love it, assuming it’s ever released of course. WALLACE: That’s incredible. Incredible. [PAUSE] What other games did your uncle show you? [WAITER BRINGS THE WINE]

Things I was frightened of as a child: - the magic mirror from the Disney Halloween special - closed shower curtains - Nuclear war - scary voices at night - a middle aged Texan farmer with a buzz haircut - a guy with a mustache who yelled at me when I got lost in a Sears - getting lost, generally

Things I was frightened of as a child: •Bats •Grandmama •Running through a meadow and coming upon a traffic cone •Lunchbox sandwiches •That one staircase we used for amorphous blobs •Touching a pool filter with my toes •Skating •Being blackmailed for something I didn't do •Rejection from a chipmunk

When I was young everybody put lead in their gas and then drove around spraying lead ashes on everything, but on the other hand IHOP sold crepes so it’s impossible to say whether it was bad or not.

Nice to live in a culture where people are given special names for use only when parents are mad at them. There is no other relevant use for the first name / last name form of address than “Jacob Robert you get in here this instant!”

I obsessively play a puzzle game in my free moments, so I can quantitatively measure the cognitive decline I’m experiencing from lack of sleep and overdose of lil’ fuzzy goofs. It’s kind of a lot?
