Are you looking for an integrative trait dataset to study plant and ecosystem functioning? Here is UNDERPLOT! Helge Bruelheide and the #sUnderfoot working group #sDiv @idiv-research.bsky.social have put together traits on fine roots, root system size, clonality, bud banks and more.
🌱 2/3: UNDERPLOT is our freshly baked 🍞 open database of 19 belowground traits across 10,453 species, applying that BPT framework at scale and uniting fine-root economics, rooting depth & clonal/bud-bank data for the first time. Led by Helge Bruelheide🌾https://doi.org/10.1038/s41597-026-08151-w

Do you study effect of disturbance on large scales? Use Belowground Persistence Types of plants! We hope that they will help us to understand better ecosystem resilience than only plant traits.
🌱 New framework in plant ecology! Researchers propose 6 Belowground Persistence Types (BPTs) — classifying plants by woodiness, clonality, and resprouting ability. This whole-plant view reveals how species persist after disturbance and could reshape how we study resilience. 🔗 buff.ly/LgaPglR (MK)
