Kinda crazy how my normal trivia team is all at least 30 years older than me and consists of: a phd high up in the nonprofit world, a lawyer/professor, a former statistician, the ceo of the Indiana branch of a large nationwide nonprofit, and a former federal judge.

The Trump admin said that ICE would scale back on community arrests if states complied with its deportation agenda. But data show that was a false promise. ICE's assault on communities has only gotten worse, even for states that do collaborate with the federal agency:

I think sometimes to outside observers, those of us whose favorite writer is Grant Morrison can seem like a cult. We explain away a lot of stuff. But at the end of the day, they are a phenomenal writer and have such a unique way of looking at the world that is endlessly intriguing.

From Siegel and Shuster’s space-Moses socialist hero, to the benevolent trickster god of the silver age, to O’Neil and Moore’s tortured man, to the triumphant leader of the Jurgens era, to “why don’t you put the whole world in a bottle” to All-Star and beyond, Superman is just such a powerful idea.

The idea that if we could see the world the way Superman saw it is so incredibly powerful. It’s something I go back to when I get too angry or pessimistic. It’s a big reason why I read so much Superman.

As the bard wrote:

“Stories can break hearts or foment revolutions. Words can electrify us or make our blood run cold. And the idea of Superman is every bit as real as the idea of god.” -Supergods (Outro: Nuff Said) by Grant Morrison

I’m leaving out some panels, but sequence at the end of All-Star Superman is probably my favorite in any sort of fiction, ever.

I know a civil rights attorney who one had an hour long conversation with an evangelical pastor. She read all sorts of articles and compiled research about how the Bible doesn’t say that homosexuality is a sin, but when she sat down and tried to convince him, all he kept on saying was “it’s a sin”

Sometimes I think I finally wrap my head around understanding American politics, then something like this shit happens and all the confused anger of “fuck this” and “how did we get here” comes back

It has helped learning how things have always been inconceivably bad, and maga is a result of the rot, despite what I believed growing up. But still, it fucking gets me

Anyway, fuck RFK cause he’s a racist asshole murdering piece of shit, he just happens to be one of the stupidest people I’ve ever witnessed.

I feel like sometimes us lefties feel weird dogging on gambling cause we don’t want to look puritanical, but putting unlimited gambling in you pocket 24/7 should 100% be illegal.

Like 20 years ago the NFL wouldn't even let the city of Las Vegas run a tourism ad during the Superbowl, because they thought it was to gambling adjacent. Now every league is just like, click this link to set up a 3 team parlay.

I was at the local library (not pictured here) to grab some books and just voted. The long line was very encouraging, there wasn’t even any parking spots available. I talked to one of the election workers and apparently it was wrapped all the way around the building over the weekend

The NBA has reached deals with Kalshi and Polymarket to make them the league's preferred prediction markets partners. The companies can now use NBA IP on their platforms, while the NBA gets right of approval on markets that they offer. That and more: www.nytimes.com/athletic/772...

I will say that I so far am liking this run a lot more than when I’d read bits and pieces of the Morrison run mostly out of order before

While families struggle through an affordability crisis, the U.S. continues to spend $445 billion on mass incarceration each year. That's a lot of money that could be spent on caring for communities instead of criminalizing them.
