Jetha Chan

🙌 Google DeepMind crew at the @ycombinator.bsky.social founder + alumni mixer! Everything from data annotation, to assistance with managing private equity companies, to robotics hardware, to just-in-time information serving for sales reps, to tankless diving equipment (!!).

My Discord account was compromised over the New Year - if you've ever heard of the good old "just try my game" attack, well, I fell for it. For more information, see my writeup on the matter: jethachan.net/security/202...

Passed this legend on the expressway earlier (photo courtesy of my wife). First time seeing an Aston Martin itasha!

I love the catering for special events at our offices. #googleai

Solar panels in full effect! It’s going to be interesting to see how these stats start to take shape.

Katamari Damacy remains really charming. #TGS2025

The cosplayers at the Sega booth are really good, wow. #TGS2025

One of these things is not like the others..!

At the local matsuri! Pro tip: if you’re concerned your yakisoba doesn’t have enough meat in it, just buy a beef skewer separately.

It was only a week but wow, I missed Tokyo.

The Google office at Pier 57 has this long entry ramp, but the dino helps you ignore the burn.

🎵 in New York 🎵

Squirrels are fascinating.

New York, I was not familiar with your game.

A flight attendant came over to point out the northern lights.

Friends were like “why fly into JFK” and tbh I kind of just wanted to fly non-stop on JAL’s A350-1000. This is kind of nuts…

It turns out that if you opt in for Face Express at Haneda, you get a whole other boarding line… still priority for groups 1 and 2 but this is kind of nuts.

Flying out to NY for some meetings. Two hours before boarding, might as well get some work done…

Spotted a Waymo in Japan! They’re doing testing and verification atm.

Spotted at Comiket today; a split keyboard with a trackball for each thumb.

At #Comiket106, in order of popularity there are are: - island circles (interior, outward facing, end-of-table) - wall circles, where their tables are up against the walls of the hall (for lines) - shutter circles, where their tables face out into the parking lot (for even longer lines)

It’s the calm before the storm here on day 2 of #Comiket106 - sales are against the rules until the event opens for real, but there are already long lines at a lot of major circles as participants decide what their first priorities will be when it does.

50 years of Comiket catalogs…

Introducing Gemma 3 270M! 🚀 It sets a new standard for instruction-following in compact models, while being extremely efficient for specialized tasks. developers.googleblog.com/en/introduci...

I didn’t know we had Lime scooters in Japan!

This is a brilliant piece by @ramiismail.com and I can’t recommend it enough for any game dev team who isn’t already rich or mega-lucky :) Brilliant packaging of the business difficulties of surviving / thriving as a developer seeking to make a name for themselves ❤️

no, Japanese dub is the way

Tsunami warnings, everyone… I guess it’s on account of that M8 near Kamchatka.

dynamite watermelon?

We really should have these in Tokyo… #porkbun

“last seen near the largest of the main Japanese home islands”

In Osaka for the day.

Taking some time for an early dinner at the Misaka PA. Might be my favorite little PA!

Crazy Powder for Men? (Beware of using too much, it’s just that tasty!)

Tolls vs no tolls, oof.

Checking in at Radio Bagel, the best bagels in Kyoto. A little out of the way but worth the trek! maps.app.goo.gl/GNJw3FwvS6jg...

Eating dinner at Komefuku Shijo Karasuma. This might have been my favorite tempura place in Kyoto, and now it’s moved across the road to a much larger place! maps.app.goo.gl/yv8wBa6FjFtZ...

At Punk Doily, possibly Tokyo’s best Australian pie shop, for lunch. Ivy is having a lamington and an apple rhubarb crumble.

Sometimes Japan makes me smile.

Thoughts and prayers for Saitama

*screaming continues*

Ahhhhhh

“Highly stimulating continuous cool sensation.” Who thought this was a good idea? A grape soda, that makes your throat tingle like you applied menthol or something to it somehow. (Frisk is a breath mint brand here in Japan.)

You know, Iceman *is* so cool. Which is more than the rest of us can say today, as heat grips Tokyo.

me: I wonder if our cats don’t like the AC on all the time our cats:

A fukubukuro, full of trash.

Oh god I hope this is good
