I asked UNH's archivist to create a file of letters protesting the "weeding" of 30% of the library's books. Future researchers need to know faculty did not let the books "go gentle into that good night" (30+ books on Dylan Thomas to be culled). 🗃️ #skystorians www.unionleader.com/opinion/op-e...

oh nothing just seething about third country removals. truly one of the most ghastly and inhumane things the country is doing rn and every time i read about it i have this surreal, disconnected feeling like what do you mean we're just letting this happen?!

aha—i see ben lamm has manufactured another huge media drop about WARHOUND, his new project with palmer luckey genetically engineering dogs for war

what good is it to have a snarky headline suggesting maybe this isn't a good idea if we're just going to copy pasta the press release word vomit anyway without any real follow up Qs about wtf this means

normally!! i am pretty understanding of embargoes and why publications agree to them. but i feel REALLY strongly that embargoes around things that are scientifically or ethically or morally squishy really deserve better than this

thebulletin.orgDire wolf, or Colossal misrepresentation?A biotechnology company called Colossal Biosciences claims to have resurrected the dire wolf, a species that went extinct over 10,000 years ago.

once again: 1. media alerted to embargoed news drop 2. interview(s) with company reps, maybe even big dog lamm himself 3. NO OPPORTUNITY TO ASK FOR OUTSIDE EXPERT COMMENTARY BEFORE EMBARGO LIFTS AND YOU HAVE TO PUB PUB PUB TO BEAT ALL THE OTHER PUBS 4. massive media frenzy over a press release

yes there will be a second round of stories that DO bring in outside voices that may say "this is really messed up," or "this is really improbable" or otherwise call out bs (which will further extend the media frenzy for days) but i'm just pretty disgusted everyone took the bait, AGAIN

How did it feel to go to bed last night after all of that, knowing the role that you played? Surý: Well, my wife says that I’m emotionally dead, but I’m not.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

legitimately want to know how all the celebs who supported colossal when it was making "dire wolves" that will live in a private zoo forever feel about this. does george rr martin think it's ethical to genetically engineer dogs to kill and be killed?

Amy Feldman@amyfeldman7.bsky.social

*NEW* Colossal Biosciences’ Ben Lamm and Anduril’s Palmer Luckey team up on a new startup to genetically engineer war dogs for the military. Warhound comes out of stealth at $1.2B valuation For @forbes.com with @iainmartin.bsky.social and @mhunterhart.bsky.social www.forbes.com/sites/amyfel...

sounds like AltNPS has watched LOST a few too many times

AltWatcher@altwatcher.bsky.social

As far as I know, AltNPS has addressed the numbers exactly once, in April 2025. They said they "couldn't explain everything," claimed they were "targeted" for posting the numbers, and then spouted something about cell-site simulators and called it a day. They never mentioned the numbers again.

East Potomac costs $42 to play and hosts thousands of people each year. A lot of the players are beginners. A lot of them don't have that much money. A lot of them are black. This is the course Donald Trump has decided shouldn't exist, and in the past, he's been fairly explicit about why not

Bluesky I know you do not care about golf. But I am telling you that in this specific case, you SHOULD care about golf. I explain in @slate.com what the Trump administration is doing to East Potomac Golf Course in D.C. slate.com/culture/2026...

My latest for @thebulletin.org. You might be wondering, why are we still talking about the beleaguered Climate Working Group report a year+ later? Because Florida's DOGE and others can still cite it in reports about “squandering millions in virtue-signaling about a so-called climate crisis.”

Jessica McKenzie@jessimckenzi.bsky.social

"Models fail in the upper atmosphere." That was the title of a slide exhibited by Steven Koonin at a panel discussion earlier this year about the controversial climate report he coauthored for the Energy Department in 2025.

lol just thought of this again

i thought "likers get likes" was a cool phrase my bf coined to describe the goodwill engendered by engaging with and supporting other people's social media posts that manifests as more engagement and support of your own posts, but he just told me it's from death stranding

according to the archives i post "likers get likes" approximately once a year (since 2023, and probably before that) and this post will continue that trend

Jessica McKenzie@jessimckenzi.bsky.social

this falls under my adage of "likers get likes." compliments make the world go round! (and this goes both ways; i try to thank editors for thoughtful and good edits, and it really makes my day when writers are happy with and grateful for my edits)
