also worth noting that this attack, no matter what else you want to say about it, was not “irrational” or “crazy”. it was very considered. the islamic republic has been destabilising for the past few years, especially as Khameini reached an older age. Anyone could see a revolution was possible.

the attacks by Israel and the US were considered precisely with this in mind, and seem to have pre-empted the regime fall in order to influence it in their favoured direction. the IR falling doesn’t mean any one system is destined to replace it. and western stooge pahlavi is their obvious choice.

a western, liberal capitalist iran that accepts israel is their ideal. and honestly, though the IR remaining standing isn’t preferable for them, they can work with it. a truly secular, revolutionary, popular, democratic, communist republic in Iran is the real existential threat to them both.
