My startup, ssensimm, has been awarded a grant of £20,000 from the Royal Academy of Engineering & I’ve been accepted onto their pre-accelerator program! 🥹 Building an AI health tech app for neurodivergent people just like me has been a DREAM I’m bringing to life. STILL IN SHOCK! WE DID IT! 🥹🧵

I’d been unemployed for over a year, tried to build a startup and just got a job. Is it DevOps Engineering role? No. Does it pay less than before? Yes! Will I be able to look after myself & pay these bills while I rebuild and start my Masters? Absolutely.

Deciding between a Masters in Computer Science with AI and a Masters in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. There’s pros and cons for both but a module in AI for Health, AI Ethics and Natural Language Processing sounds like a bit of me! 😍

This might be a hot take but not bothering to get a degree or finish it is not an option if you are Black, a person of colour, part of the LGBTQIA+ community, disabled, first generation or a woman. I don’t think we should sleep on not getting an education if we’re able to financially.

Can I just say that many Black women who have been getting into entrepreneurship isn’t just because they want to, some have HAD to. As a Black woman who entered entrepreneurship, my thought process was if tech is keeping me out with 5 years of experience, I might as well do my own shxt.

ssensimm is in @cnet.com ! 🧠 As a late diagnosed AuDHD DevOps Engineer, I’m building the sensory overload support app I’ve always wished for. Research is being done but we need solutions now so I’m creating tech for good as a solo founder with an amazing community. 🥰 www.cnet.com/tech/service...

Building a healthtech app using AI with ethics and privacy in mind also means doing a lot of learning to make sure I’m knowledgeable about privacy in design and ethics. Can’t release an app for neurodivergent people without considering this. I think that is so reckless.

I know we talk about AI “taking our jobs” but we need people looking at getting into AI policy, data policy, privacy, AI law & data law. Learn how to code if you want but we need talent to create policy to protect users of all these technologies & to defend the public in court over these issues.

I’m so grateful to the people who have uplifted me & supported me when I was at my lowest. This year has been so tough but I’m fighting for my dream, my life & the little girl in me. I might fall down but no matter the recovery time, I’ll ALWAYS get up.

Here’s what I’m learning from being a solo founder of a health tech app in the AI age 🤖: 1. You have to learn quickly. 2. Keeping ethics & privacy at the centre means deploying fast isn’t always a good idea. 3. I don’t know everything even as a techie so leaning on community is important.

I haven’t been on BlueSky in a while. Here’s an update: ✌🏾 I got laid off. 👩🏾‍💻 I launched a Health Tech startup focused on neurodivergent support with over 500+ in the waitlist in just two weeks with no product ready. 🔎 Still job hunting too. How are you all doing? 😅

I’m in the ✨fun stage✨ of building my startup as a solo founder. It’s amazing building the product and seeing it come to life. I really feel this app will help so many people in the neurodivergent community & the families or carers who may support them. Here’s to building tech for good. 🥂

Autism is a spectrum. Presenting in different ways for different people. Psuedo-scientists can claim that vaccines cause autism but: THERE IS NO CURE FOR AUTISM! Governments should be providing financial support & accessibility tools to neurodivergent people, their carers & their families.
