I am a ghostly whisper, lost in sky, a stray thought ever fading, stubbornly asking why, wingtips glinting in starlight as through the frozen darkness I fly.

I'm an engineer / scientist / inventor who now mostly focuses on writing & music. Also, I'm a dragon, sort of. And sometimes confused, sort of. From time to time, I shall be posting photos of trees, cats, raccoons, owls, and deer from my tiny refuge of Jeffendell. (Plus some music, possibly.)

In honor of the passing of the great Walter Koenig, please enjoy this clip from The 1987 Fangoria Weekend of Horrors convention VHS featuring Walter Koenig and his son Andrew (who we all knew and loved as Boner on Growing Pains) attending the con.

If anyone has Prime Video and wants to watch this, it's leaving Prime in 6 days, so you better hurry. Definitely worth it.

Just finished watching Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Really enjoyed it. Very well done. Fantastic actors. Great acting. A small story, really, but then it's a movie, not a book, so that's completely appropriate.

Louis Comfort Tiffany had his gardeners cut fresh flowers at his Long Island estate and ship them to his New York studios nearly every week. The designers worked from the real thing, wilting on the bench. Pansies became one of the best sellers. 16 inches tall, 16 across.

This is a famous Japanese maple (Acer palmatum) in its autumn colors, located in the Portland Japanese Garden in Portland, Oregon (USA). The tree is a popular subject for landscape photographers. The photographer behind this particular shot is the American landscape photographer Mike Putnam.

As I've said before, it's only once I became a professor that I realized the entmoot, a meeting that goes on for three days and three nights, was a professor's joke about faculty meetings.

The Lord of the Rings is essentially a series of faculty meetings broken up by several long walks in the countryside.

Did you know… there used to be a pool up behind the Hollywood sign? It was built in 1939 as a glamorous backdrop for early b&w TV broadcasts, which featured "bathing beauty" segments to help sell products on air.

One thing I've noticed when listening to audiobooks is that I need to slow down playback speed when I'm tired. Usually from 1.0 speed to 0.9 or so. If I don't like the book but still want to finish it, I try speeding up the playback to 1.5 (50 percent faster). But if I'm tired, I can't do that.

#Poetry #Painting #Nighttime THE HARE I saw an old witch-hare this night... And she eyed the moon so bright And I whispered "Wh-s-st! witch-hare," Away like a ghostie o'er the field She fled, and left the moonlight there. - Walter De La Mare 🎨 Rachel Wright

Saw this at a theater with my grandmother years ago. She came here from Austria when she was a kid, and cried all through the movie.
