The fact these drones are inevitably going to pepper spray random students and staff and prove ineffective in an actual scenario will be lost on whichever backwards "security consultant" was able to fleece these districts. If only there was another way to make guns less of a threat at schools...

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Some schools in Florida, Georgia and Colorado will be equipped with drones this year that can go through halls, smash windows and pepper-spray active shooters if teachers report a threat. The program follows a wave of high-tech campus security spending. https://wapo.st/4gVNMXn

I think the fact the modal Democratic voter is a woman of color drives a lot of people crazy because while they may profess to believe in equality and acceptance, they still want women to make a little less money and be a little more quiet than them.

Ryan Broderick@ryanhatesthis.bsky.social

A lot of leftist men were — and seemingly still are — willing to accept Graham Platner's many many faults because they have a sneering, condescending belief that working people in this country are white townie oafs who will only listen to other white townie oafs. www.garbageday.email/p/the-curdli...

A lot of them felt like guys who "support" women as long as she makes less than them and laughs at their pop culture references. He was basically a rich kid who said the R-word on Reddit and apparently that was aspirational to a lot of them.

Julia Carrie Wong@joolia.bsky.social

continue to think that planter’s support with the lib/left male pundit class was not *in spite of* his various transgressions, but because of them, a frankly pathetic attempt to reassert dem masculinity through a man whose violent career they believed represented working class authenticity

The SiriusXM logo on that clip is pretty damning as well; this isn't some two-bit Blaze Media-type podcast. This is a radio show on the major satellite radio company's airwaves spewing Stormfront-level hate.

Here’s the discourse we’re missing out on by not engaging on Elon Musk’s microblog

Trump gleefully joined in with Netanyahu and now this war being managed by the dumbest people you can find in this administration is on Israel's timeline and temperament.

This post is unavailable.

Yeah, it's another step in the process but to call it a "deal" is deeply misleading and, more importantly, is absolutely going to blow up in Trump's face if/when talks breakdown or he gives up more.

CNN correctly reports “The signing of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran is expected to kick off 60 more days of negotiation on ending the war.” www.cnn.com/2026/06/14/w...

I get he's not paid to have an ounce of shame but you'd think someone in their comms team would advise him to maybe not mention US precision aiming and Palantir in the same sentence.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Palantir CEO Alex Karp: You look at American performance in Iran, which was been thanks to the bravery of Americans and I would like to believe our tech, very few losses on our side, very precise, very controlled." (The US blew up an elementary school .. )

Even if these claims are all universally exclusive to agriculture (they aren't, but go with me)...what's the alternative to effectively no larger-scale society? Sky-high infant mortality rates, shortened life spans and lower quality, and extreme degradation of technological advancements?

rprobbins.bsky.social@rprobbins.bsky.social

A different take on that statement from an archaeologist 💯💯💯🎯

The fact people like Stoller, Cenk Uyger, and Hasan Piker are all making excuses and minimizing Platner's behavior has done wonders to confirm my priors about them.

Popehat@kenwhite.bsky.social

It’s perfectly legitimate to form opinions of politicians based on the kind of people who are their biggest supporters.

Every time I think Jacobin has produced its worst take possible they surprise me. This being both wrong on the merits AND the presentation is at least new.

Jacobin@jacobinmag.bsky.social

Faced with declining market share and poptimist contempt, rock music once seemed bound for the dustbin of history. But an industry crisis and a moribund liberal political establishment are driving a rediscovery of rock’s potential.

I have my issues with Jeffries but Dem leadership deserves a lot of credit for getting these concessions as a minority party.

Mike Black@mikeblack114.bsky.social

They'll get zero credit for it from dem voters or the political media, but this is legitimately an astounding political achievement for a US minority party to pull off

I don't know if you can play to them because they aren't intellectually consistent enough to tie down. More important is Dems need to just pass as much stuff as they can when they have power and ride the inevitable downturns while telling SCOTUS to touch grass.

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

"A huge number of American votes are totally misinformed about everything and were convinced to vote for Trump for totally absurd reasons" is an opportunity, not an intractable problem. Dems need to start aggressively playing the game of winning these voters that they've ignored for decades.

Bash is an absolute clown and has been carrying the water for the GOP for years now under the guise of "just asking questions".

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

BASH: You and your fellow Democrats have used some heated rhetoric against the president. Do you think twice about that when something like that happens? RASKIN: What rhetoric do you have in mind? BASH: That he's terrible for this country and so on and so forth

Yeah, the number of media types I've seen even here claim that speculation about the event is wrong even as their colleagues are just blasting misinformation out there is infuriating.

Dave Jorgenson@davejorgenson.bsky.social

I’m really trying to be respectful towards the people who attended but I cannot help gesturing wildly towards this entire event and yelling “this is why people do not trust the press”

The 3% of self-identified Dems who approve of Trump's work need to be studied and, possibly, quarantined.

Bret Stephens is an abomination as a writer and it's largely because he is both incredibly stupid AND incredibly insulting at equal turns.

Cameron 🇺🇸🗽🦅@cameroncorduroy.bsky.social

thousands of allied troops and tens of thousands of Iraqis, Afghans, and Kurds died on our behalf following 9/11 and this depraved freak has the audacity to call their sacrifice "moderately helpful" or "mostly symbolic"

Shockingly, civil engagement and fighting for your future is more productive than doomposting about it.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

anyway i know how many of you hate that i’m so vocal about this and think it makes me a naive shitlib or whatever. but again, i think the best thing you could do for yourself here is to get involved in election administration where you live.

It'll absolutely work, followed by him joining some AI company as an "advisor" or "evangelist" and then when that craters he'll get another sympathetic Michael Lewis-type author to write about how it definitely wasn't his fault due to a lack of competent business acumen.

And when numerous people, including a lot of Dem politicians, said what he'd do in the run-up to the election (and since) they inevitably get covered as a mix of overreacting partisans and fringe elements.

It's why I'm tired of the "why don't Dems stop talking about prices and instead about this insanity". A, they do both, but B, they did talk about this for years and were met with an indifferent marginal voter who wanted cheaper eggs and a more muscular military/fewer "bad" illegals.

Yeah, outside of the diehard MAGA people there is absolutely no way anyone is going to believe the story being pushed by ICE here. There's just so much damning evidence.

I try not to criticize Democratic leadership, but the required addition of affordability language to condemnations of Trump's military adventurism cheapens both.

Really good thread about how the shutdown ended. Dem leadership is suffering but they also have a chance, as a party, to push back forcefully against Trump and his admin if they readjust their view of him and the stakes.

Daniel Schuman@americalabs.org

Some thoughts on the CR/minibus. 1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins. Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

This is going to be the big headline. I get what Jackson is doing here, as it gives the first circuit an actual chance to rule instead of Trump immediately demanding SOCTUS chime in (in a normal situation SCOTUS would have turned him down anyway). It still sucks to see people go hungry.

Sometimes I see people like 20 tweets deep into an argument with Grok. Like, what are you doing brother? You are trying to win an argument with a vending machine.

The fact he's suing the DOJ for what is suspiciously close to the original price of his new ballroom shouldn't be overlooked in his overall crookedness. Trump should be in jail but since he isn't we also get to deal with the 2-bir grifting he's done his entire life.

Beyond the overall stupidity of Lovett acting like "please don't have a Nazi tattoo you weren't going to remove until people yelled at you" is some crazy high standard, I'd love to know what Platner's actual history in politics leads to Jon believing he'd be a good Senator?

Again, I'm old enough to very much remember how Romney was portrayed in 2012 and it was as an empty suit plutocrat. Santorum ran on a ton of culture war issues and got traction, but the legacy GOP was just able to win out with Romney. But combined with Sarah Palin you could see the turn coming.

Dan in Kansas City@daninkc.bsky.social

The media smeared Mitt Romney as Hitler. Then Republicans thought, well we might as well run Hitler.

Mayor Wu isn't remotely scared of this administration and it's funny to see this dullard try to act like he'd actually follow thru on these threats.
