Christopher Burton was one of my best friends in high school & one of the few I never lost touch with. When they tore down our old school, he went to the site & scavenged some bricks. He mailed me one in LA, wrapped in blue & red ribbons. He was a very special person. He died of AIDS today.

I am very sad today because my friend from high school is being moved to hospice. He is dying of AIDS. Yes, it still happens. The last time we talked he was so scared to die. The worst part is I know he will know he’s for sure dying once they move him to hospice. It’s been a really shit day.

Thank you, all. He passed away today. I am so very sad.

I think once all the champagne is gone and the parties in the streets dwindle, we will find that his demise will feel similar. There’s no real going back now, is there? We have seen the ugly face of our country and can never unsee it again.

Data centers are more of a “not in my backyardism. People don’t want to connect that ugly building in town using and polluting the town’s water and not paying taxes with their daily Google queries. Nobody wants a trash dump in their backyard either, but the trash has to go somewhere, doesn’t it?

I will admit that I’m pissed bc AI has ruined the em-dash for me and other screenwriters. It’s a handy tool for a specific type of writing. Can’t use it at all anymore without sending AI detectors into a tizzy.

There is a growing movement to take back the American flag. You can show solidarity by displaying a pride flag next to it.

Two US officials and a Western official say Trump’s White House instructed Pentagon to slow Ukraine’s Starshield. The sabotage took effect as Russia launched 39 ballistic missiles at Ukraine’s power grid, disrupting defensive drones & military operations.

I work 70 hrs a week in college next to kids half my age who cheat w AI, work 20 hrs and get the same or better grades. There’s no reward for being a good person. There’s no cookie for having ethics, and the bad guys do usually win. Do with that knowledge what you will.

We’re in an AI transition & I get that many are confused about. Let me be clear, I canceled my MSWord subscription (of 20 years) bc there’s no way to turn AI off. Now using Notes and AI-disabled Pages to write. I will go back to spiral notebooks if I have to. I went back to college to learn.

MLA formatting will trigger these AI detectors, too. Academic language itself triggers it. I’ll live with the typos, thanks. As a professional writer, it’s horrible to watch. It’s tearing apart the learning process. Off-loading cognitive thinking is a dystopian future I don’t want to live in.

When a professor prompts an essay with technical questions, it triggers AI detectors. Neuroplasticity, sensory perception, etc. I will defend my original work against all AI accusations. I keep my drafting notes. The presumption of guilt on students using AI is out of control right now. It’s awful

Kind of depends on what’s getting done, doesn’t it, Peter? If a serial killer gets away with murder for decades, he is not morally good, just good at killing. The 2 “goods” here are not the same. One is functional good. The other is ethical good. He’s conflating them. He thinks we’re all stupid.

This is an absolute disaster from a national security perspective. Obviously, a lot on F-35s is classified, but a weapons-bay door and a canopy with radar-absorbing material are some of the most sensitive. Hard to describe how bad this is.
