Pay attention to the language coming from the U.S. Canada is mocked. Belittled. Called weak, dishonest, ungrateful. We’re supposedly taking advantage of the U.S. Make us the enemy. Then whatever comes next becomes easier to justify. This language comes before the violence. Every fucking time.

Morning. Chow stays. Tedjo wins Mississauga; Brass wins Halton Hills. First Nations chiefs want a shared path beyond the Indian Act. PM Carney sees U.S. trade movement. Midterms looming. We'll see. Nearly 140,000 Ontario students held mock elections. Democracy takes practice. Coffee’s on. ☕🇨🇦

Morning. PM Carney’s talking trade in Türkiye. We keep diversifying. Russia bombs Kyiv while talking peace. Trump thinks wind turbines threaten national security. What a circus. And, Oakville’s recruiting volunteers and the Legion’s centennial Poppy Campaign begins. It’s Friday. Coffee’s on. ☕🇨🇦

Morning. U.S. tariffs are fine; Canada defending itself is election interference. Convenient bloody definition. [sips coffee] $8.7B pledged for tariff-hit industries. Workers need follow-through. Stratford’s raising funds for homes for women and children escaping violence. Coffee’s on. ☕🇨🇦

My wife deployed a 45-minute tether protocol this morning. I am allowed to write, but if I don't report back, she assumes a hyper-focused containment breach has occurred and the turkey prep is doomed. Who else has a brain like this?

Currently operating under a strict 45-minute tether protocol enforced by my wife. Left unchecked, I will hyperfocus on a manuscript and forget Thanksgiving prep exists. I get the credit for the writing, but she's the one managing the collateral damage of my brain.

Morning. Hurricane leftovers may join Thanksgiving. Lovely (be safe.) Livestreamed execution? WTF! USA?!! Trump wants Russian diesel while Ukraine fights for survival. Again WTF, USA? Meanwhile, Canadian students and volunteers cook for neighbours. Keep doing the work. FFS, coffee’s on. ☕🇨🇦

The EU has delivered greater stability across the continent, greater mobility for its citizens, and a single market that gives Europe global economic weight. An honour to hear President von der Leyen address the European Parliament today as we build a deeper partnership for the future.

Canada as the EU’s first “associate member” is one hell of a sentence to wake up to. The details aren’t there yet, but deeper ties on trade, defence, energy and technology? This is good, and odd as we figure out the relationship. I'm here for it. Very strange times. Very interesting times. ☕🇨🇦🇪🇺

I’ve been spending a little more time on @gandersocial.ca . The feed feels different. People tell stories. Founders answer questions. Bugs get called bugs. Chapman’s posts about ice cream. I wrote about why that matters to me, and why digital sovereignty is more than where we park the servers.

jasonbu.onlineA Canadian Social Network Is Not the PointTaking a break from algorithmic sludge, and finding a small Canadian corner of the internet that still feels human (actual humans).
