Hi all 👋🏻 Lots of new followers here so let me introduce myself -- I'm a former journalist, NYer in LA, and one-time pun champion. (seriously.) Currently working on @forth.news, trying to make a better place for news online. Please say hi! Introduce yourselves!

We're already building an audience for IPAWS alerts (www.forth.news/lists/ipaws) and augmenting as much as we can with public data.

Are you a PIO or work in government/official communications? As Facebook starts charging to post links, you may want to rethink how you distribute alerts to your constituents. We'd love to help.

Sorry, Mary-Kate.

The name of New Mexico is funny because it's one of those things that you'd think is really simple (oh, it's it used to be part of old Mexico, so we'll call it New Mexico!), but it's much more complex New Mexico as the name for the area predates Mexico by several hundred years!

While not a replacement to a dogged, professional newsroom- we’ve been building @forth.news, pulling releases, alerts, statements, and other primary sources. We’re still increasing our local coverage, but would love to work with anyone from a news desert to surface some info from those areas.

For those who insist they need to be on X to keep up with the newsmakers and institutions that post there, we’re pulling those tweets into @forth.news and Forth Pro. You can still get the latest breaking news —augmented by a lot of other sources — without logging on to the hellsite.

I spent 18 years in newsrooms. The thing that always bugged me: by the time news reaches you, it's been rewritten three times. The people who win news cycles work from primary sources. So I built Forth Pro — one prompt watches 100+ of them, and pings you when yours shows up. pro.forth.news

For what its worth, we're proud @forth.news that we pull in official/newsworthy sources from X, so you can keep up without visiting the site.

"Tying funding for transit projects to marriage rates and how many babies a woman has is the sort of bizarre and dystopian idea you’d expect in a TV show, not actual policy put forth by the U.S. government—yet here we are." - @murray.senate.gov

Kudos to anyone who takes charge like this—but I really hate this framing. Journalists are storytellers, responsible for making an audience care about what they’re reporting. Newspapers are a product that have to appeal to their market. Saying it’s “important” isn’t a marketing strategy.
