seriously considered buying theiPhone Duo just for the smaller form factor.

Tech isn’t always rational. The iPhone mini proves it. πŸ“± While the industry keeps pushing bigger, beefier phones, a passionate niche still wants something smaller and simpler. A phone that connects us without overwhelming us. Maybe bigger isn’t always better. www.fastcompany.com/91625181/the...

Amtrak is cutting the ribbon today on its new maintenance facility in SoDo, specifically built to handle the new Airo fleet for Amtrak Cacades.

Got tickets for me and my 2yr old on the first brand new Amtrak Cascades β€œAiro” train next week for a day trip to Vancouver. 😍

We are happy to report that the tracks north of Portland are opening! Tomorrow, on August 19, all Amtrak Cascades trains resume normal service, except Train 500 which will resume on Thursday, August 20. Let your summer travel plans resume. We’ll drive! πŸ’šπŸ€ŽπŸ€

hey #bikesky! I built an app that makes running a bike valet easier! a simple web app that sends SMS to riders instead of a clipboard and a roll of raffle tickets. i’m doing this just for fun, so share with your local bike group and DM if they’d be interested in trying it out for free!

this past weekend, an operator in Bellingham used the app to run a 10 hour bike valet for the Ski to Sea race that served over 620 people! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ really fun to see folks using this to make it easier to offer more transportation choices for folks!

I’m getting news that Bellingham has permanantly repealed their parking minimums. Their initial pilot years ago paved the way for much bigger reforms. Great leadership and organizing through and through. 🍾

A Bellingham resident says there have been too many close calls for pedestrians and cyclists sharing the road with drivers. She urges community members to read Safe Streets Bellingham's proposal. Read her letter and more opinions for NW WA readers in CDN’s weekly letters section.

the β€œwow, even Alaska is in play” news cycle happens every 2-4 years. Dunbar, Galvin, Gross, Peltola 2024.

The poll of the weekend? The main Alaska pollster, ASR, released a poll of Alaska’s Senate race with Mary Peltola leading by 5 against GOP Senator Dan Sullivan. Even just putting this one in play is a big deal for Dems and their difficult path to a Senate majority.

as someone who lived in DC from 2013 to 2016, the public narrative shift on WMATA is breathtaking πŸ˜‚

Happy birthday to the Washington Metro, which opened 50 years ago today with service on 4.6 mi of Red Line between Rhode Is. Ave & Farragut N. System now serves 130 mi. The DC Metro shows that, with good planning & enough investment, the public sector can succeed & build something extraordinary.

the discourse on the WA millionaires tax is WILD. it’s like 15 millionaires (meaning, making way more than $1m ANNUALLY) posting about how they’re gonna move to Florida and then you look them up and they’re all the worse people you can imagine πŸ˜‚

very excited! #Bellingham is zeroing in on a solid plan to invest ~$10M in infrastructure improvements to enable 10min frequency on our core local bus lines. as far as i can tell, we’d be the only small city (<100k) on the West Coast (excluding suburbs) with this kind of frequency. πŸ’ͺ🚌

engage.ridewta.comRapid Transit StudyWTA is assessing two potential Rapid Transit Routes within Bellingham. The study compares the existing conditions and potential for transit improvements for each route.

exciting things happening in my little town! an ambitious new comp plan that’ll greatly increase multiuse density, a rapid transit plan to get down to 10min headways on our best bus lines, a full neighborhood-scale car-lite development, and great new bike infrastructure in the works! πŸš€ #Bellingham

we’re going to make a dent in our housing crisis AND make Bellingham more livable, vibrant, and community-centered than it already is - all at the same time. so much work by so many people over YEARS are going into this, but it’s awesome to see it coming together.

Cascades (Eugene to Vancouver BC) will launch the first in the nation Airo trainsets later this year.

It's a "whole new era at Amtrak," @amtrak.com President Roger Harris said Tuesday. Its new Airo trains will debut on the Cascades this summer and East Coast in 2027, becoming the workhorse of Amtrak's fleet by replacing Amfleets that date to the 1970s. thepointsguy.com/news/amtrak-...

this project is unaffordable and unsustainable. end highway expansion. start from scratch.

The US Coast Guard will allow Washington and Oregon to build a lower, 116-foot bridge over the Columbia River as part of I-5 expansion plans, according to KGW. That means costs will "only" range from $12.2 to $17.7 billion. www.kgw.com/article/news...

I love San Francisco, but this was my least favorite thing about the city. Nothing was ever just *done* and it was exhausting.

It is actually insane that this is probably going to go up for another vote. Perfect example of why it's so hard to get anything done in San Francisco. www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/s...
