btw if you are struggling you can do this sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade --fix-missing \ php8.4-bcmath php8.4-cli php8.4-common php8.4-curl that fix missing will install what its able to get to and you can run it over and over to get the ones you missed the first time

Anybody I know that works with AI agents in a saas type product: What patterns do you use to keep your instructions from ballooning? We've been running for a while and every time someone complains about something its turned into a "Never do this" type instruction which seems unsustainable

As my boys (7 and 4) were discussing poop for the 9000th time I figured it was time… I’ll preface this by saying I’m not a Kanye fan in general but there is one song of his that applies directly-

“Lift yourself” I started the song and they kept looking at me confused. “Trust me” I kept saying. And when “that next verse though” hit you should have heard the cackles. No regrets

I'm going to have to make a "no Claude Friday" or something so I can still keep a mental picture of these applications and keep from going crazy

My boys 6 and 3 have invented a creature called a “holesound” which has 2 arms and 4 legs, needles “like a hedgehog” that can poke you and it blows air out of its mouth to “make the instrument work but if it gets to your nose it catches on fire.” Sounds terrifying honestly

My son 6: “Well I don’t want to keep living in a crack house” my wife: “what?” My son: “Well there are cracks in the wall over there”

Weird thing I found out this AM- AI agents are not very good at TDD. They tend to flop around trying to fix errors. They are far better at writing tests that match what they've already created which doesn't give me a huge amount of confidence honestly

Hey Git worktree is actually pretty nice for running multiple agents at once- now I can pretend to successfully run 2 in parallel

One thing I noticed though is that on large existing projects it tends to make incorrect assumptions that could lead to some very subtle and very catastrophic bugs. I think the issue is that it can't pull the whole codebase into its context. If I wasn't vigilant it would have made some nasty bugs

Basically, while I felt a little unsure last week about whether AI will take all dev jobs I'm now certain it won't. I think this context problem is AI's achilles heel. It will be very fast at bootstrapping new things but as projects get bigger it will struggle more and more with context

We asked my son to circle a couple things he might like for Christmas in the Amazon book we got. Looks like he got concerned we might go with Barbie’s this year
