A year before the good citizens of Massachusetts burned an Ursuline Convent in Charlestown to the ground. 12 of the 13 men indicted were acuiitted; the 13th was convicted but received a pardon from the governor.

Below are the 30 U.S. cities with at least 100,000 residents that had the highest number of crimes against people, per 100,000, according to the latest FBI data report. Goodness, Washington, D.C., forgot to be included! JD Vance & Jim Jordon's Ohio makes a stellar showing. Heck of a job on crime!

DEI should never have included formerly enslaved Africans freed from slavery. After 1865, their communities were destroyed by white violent mobs and rioters. They were lynched. They were forced to live in fear, housing burned, businesses destroyed. Heritage destroyed. Family name eliminated.

#ResistanceRoots #Voices4Victory What caused the Great Depression? Most people would say the stock market crash of 1929. That was probably the No. 1 factor, but the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 made it worse. The act raised tariffs on over 20,000 imported goods by almost 60%. /1

#ResistanceRoots Today in history, 1848: The first women’s rights convention begins in Seneca Falls, N.Y. Organized by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and local Quaker women, the Seneca Falls Convention was an important early step in women’s efforts to gain greater civil, legal and social rights. /1

After a series of lectures and discussions, the 300 attendees were presented with a Declaration of Sentiments and resolutions for debate and modification. Stanton wrote the Declaration in the style of the Declaration of Independence, emphasizing that women’s rights were also “self-evident.” /2

The Declaration then lists women’s grievances against the patriarchy, including being denied rights to property, a thorough education and fair employment. Among the resolutions was a demand for the right to vote, an issue that was debated vigorously, with some attendees wanting it removed. /3

Frederick Douglass, the only African American attendee, argued that the suffrage resolution should be included. Ultimately it was retained and 100 attendees signed the document. The Seneca Falls Convention attracted widespread attention and was soon followed by other women’s rights conventions. /end

Despite this environment, Malone graduated two years later with a B-plus average, becoming the first black student to obtain a degree from the University of Alabama. She later joined the DOJ’s civil rights division and led programs that helped minorities register to vote and run for office. /4

Malone and Hood were able to enroll after JFK federalized the Alabama National Guard to escort them. However, her troubles were far from over. She faced threats of violence, including a bomb that went off near her dorm room. She was also ostracized and subjected to hostility from other students. /3

A federal court held that the University of Alabama’s refusal to admit black students violated the Supreme Court’s ruling in Brown v. Board of Education. However, when Malone and James Hood attempted to enroll in the school, Alabama Governor George Wallace physically blocked the door. /2

At its height, the Niagara Movement had just 170 members, in part due to its opposition to Washington. It disbanded in 1910. But its principles lived on in the NAACP and it served as an influential precursor to the Civil Rights Movement. /end
