Two of my most used apps but @libbyapp.com is creating waves. They're finally adding some verification to the app and Auckland Libraries are swamped. It's years since I've laid eyes on my card and I've moved house so I'm guessing it's gone. The library had dropped my email address 🤷‍♀️

I had some trouble resetting my PIN because of the missing email and then the new one wouldn't work and the whole verification system died. I did get put through to my local library and the woman said “this is because of Libby, right?” and sounded exhausted.

Rode up to a common meeting spot in Auckland. Another group was gathering but none of mine had arrived yet. Bloke wanders over and tells me I need a louder exhaust. I tell him I'm not an asshole. He left me alone after that!

Men on loud motorcycles in cities are a desperate cry for attention.

Would you describe pigeons as an iconic NYC sight? If I ever risk spending thousands on a 21-hour flight to NY (which I hope will be possible again one day) I will not be treating pigeons as a key tourist experience.

It should be on rooftops, over car parks etc instead of on arable land!

When you get your “West Island” references muddled and have to look it up 🤣🇦🇺

Achievement unlocked: going out for a late afternoon bike ride on the West Island, deciding impromptu to stay over for dinner in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue because there is a nice bike path to the REM, which runs every 15 minutes past midnight to go back home.

Doing tourist things today. Overheard a woman loudly telling everyone that she was from LA. I was shocked. I wouldn't want people knowing that about me looking askance. Shouldn't she be at home fighting for her country and not swanning around Europe?

I've been busy but I don't see anyone talking about the economic impact on the US of Europe turning their backs on: - Visa & Mastercard - Apple & Microsoft - Google & AWS cloud storage Is the US worried about the economic ramifications? Are companies outside the US stepping up to fill the void?

I'm in France, and yes it's bloody hot! But rather than ask people if they'll get aircon maybe the on-the-street reporters should be asking about attitudes to climate change? France could teach NZ a thing or two about cycling. It's impressive everywhere we go. I've never seen so many cargo bikes!

I had a doggo visiting over the weekend. I've known him since he was a pup tho I don't see him that often these days. Sitting at a cafe he lunged at an older man & nipped him. The man took his registration but didn't show us the “gash”. Discovered that he'd been kicked by an older man once.

I'd put money down that the man this weekend had the same build and gait as the other man. Why are people so awful? Poor wee fella has limited control over his life. Keeping them safe from human cruelty is the least we can do.

Why does it look like his soul is leaving his body?

No, it's not too much to ask at all. In fact, waaaaaaay back when I was in Journalism school, they taught us that we were to be public arbiters of fact. Not give our opinions, but tell people what's true and what isn't. Seems that's not a thing any longer.

This is insane. One of the wealthiest countries in the world and a modern President revolutionised access to healthcare. Now his successor is destroying it. Absolutely not the greatest country in the world.

The day the Affordable Care Act passed was one of my proudest moments as president, because it meant that millions of Americans would have access to health care, some for the first time.

Then there’s the specialist referrals that go through with the wrong address even though we confirm our contact details at EVERY visit. The address used to be mine, but why is it storing my address in more than one place?

I rode through Ponsonby yesterday and saw the public meeting. Then watched the news and saw it was pro-Trump. Pro the people saying they're going to kill all Iranians. I hope, for their sake, that they're right but I cant see this ending well.

So with that in mind, I started playing a silly little game on reddit last year and saw some flaws in the outside-the-game mechanisms. What was initially just for me became this would be more useful if other people crowdsourced info to a completely over engineered tool.

But along the way I’ve learnt a lot about web security, and bypassing it, running shell scripts, and using headless browsers. I’ve even been comparing chatgpt, code copilot, gemini & claude. How any of this will be useful with the regular code I write I have no idea. But it’s been fun 🤷‍♀️
