I honestly love it when a photography client reaches out like a decade later to ask if there’s any chance I still have their photos because they’ve lost them because a) it means they still treasure those photos and b) it validates my digital hoarding

Someone downloaded the “Photoshop” clone and none of the menus worked and it took like 20 seconds to draw a circle lol

Over on Threads Seth Abramson’s losing his mind about closed source software and I’ve never been more sure that Closed Source software is going to be fine because of it

There are people who wear masks in public where they aren’t required but also keep them under your nose / take them down to talk and I cannot begin to understand what‘s going on there.

I don't wanna COUCH my words here: I know JD Vance, his eyeliner, and absent Ashley Moody are used to running away from people when things get tough because they care more about themselves and their billionaire buddies than the people they represent. But this is my home. /1

JD Vance on Angie Nixon: "Get the hell out of here. You don't belong in America"

Yes, that's right, Spotlight Search: when I type in "safari", I am indeed looking for either the 1956 British film or a plugin for a Babel preset buried in various projects' node_modules folders. I certainly do not want to open Apple's signature web browser. That would be ridiculous.

There was a karaoke machine at a party I was at yesterday with some other parents and their kids, a group of girls ages 9-14. The top suggested song on the machine was Choosin’ Texas, and they had fun singing it. Then they opened the search, typed in their next song, and absolutely crushed 9 to 5.

Meta and X have been quietly downranking external links for ages, but we're now entering a new era of open hostility toward the open web. It's a great time to build your own website, free from any billionaires demanding a tithe for things that have always been free.

Fucking hell. Facebook is now limiting the number of links that a page or professional profile can include in a post to TWO PER MONTH, unless you pay them $7.99 a month. Fucking assholes.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, I stood with a face full of shaving cream smearing the phone as I reassured my brother-in-law in Japan that my wife was in the other Tower. Her family were worried over the breaking news they were getting from across the Pacific. We watched together ... 1/

In Massachusetts, we have a responsibility to protect the vulnerable and stand up for those who need it. We don’t throw trans kids under the bus for political points. We protect them—and all of our neighbors—because trans rights are human rights.

You just know her posts would be incredible

The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.

4yo: “Dad? Do we have any Petri dishes?” “Uhhh, no, we don’t, sweetheart.” 4yo: “Aww, man… I wanted to grow bacteria so we could make our own yogurt. … I wish you were a scientist…”

Every time I try to use Instagram I end up closing the app after the first 5 or so posts, because invariably, 4 of them are fucking ads

just absolutely astounding how a company this big and influential and renowned could release a product feature that's so stupid and bad

Why did MacOS's spotlight search become terrible? "Hmm, that's the name of an app they use all the time -- we should suggest the uninstaller for it, yeah?"

Photographed a wedding last Saturday, and while taking a group shot of the couple and their ~25 college friends, all Bowling Green alumni, and who’ve already had a chance to start hitting the bar, I go “so is this a bad time to tell you all I went to Toledo?”

I let my 7yo read The Onion’s “I work very hard, and I would like to try cake” op Ed by A Horse, so now the other parents at this birthday party are bewildered at why he’s laughing and saying “the horse wouldn’t like this cake!”

The thing I like about my Bluesky feed is that this has a 50/50 chance of being about the quarterback or the programming language

The friction will come when Dart proves to be not that good.

Gave my daughter a hug this morning. She’s 7. She told me, “I like your hugs because you’re squishy. I kind of melt into a blob” and after some calculations I think it’s a net increase to my self esteem

The well being of World leaders is not my responsibility… they are protected cared for and secure The well being of people who can’t afford the rent Can’t afford healthcare Can’t afford groceries Is my concern

Plumbing company called me, and I realized it was an AI agent. Within 2 minutes, I had it go from "Would you like to schedule a plumbing inspection?" to advising me on the health/allergen considerations of a cookie recipe and stating the position of the federal government on plant-based products.

I’m a very non-confrontational person but if I heard someone say this out loud at the grocery store I’d call them a fucking creep

Amen. We shouldn’t need faster and faster chips to keep up with a software and web development philosophy of shipping poorly optimized, bloated code. Why does the Lowe’s website make my laptop fan turn on?!

If you have an iPhones 11 and you like it… there is no reason to get an iPhone 17 Simply no value added in 8 years

Recently saw AI-generated front end code where someone asked it for links to change colors when hovered. The way to do this is with :hover in CSS. You get performance, transitions, simplicity, compatibility, all for free. AI used JS mouseenter and mouseleave event listeners to add/remove styles 🙃
