Had my annual Covid booster yesterday and I seem to have woken up with all my limbs intact, no new super powers, nothing magnetic and only slight soreness at the site. I can sure live with that. I was lucky enough to get a flu shot weeks ago.

I can’t wait to read an analysis of First Nations participation in yesterday’s referendum in Alberta. So many voters that ballots ran out more than once in several locations. First Nations have played real leadership roles in pushing back against the UCP. Such a fascinating development!

So happy to hear that turnout has been high on Alberta First Nations! Siksika’s poll will be the last to close because they had to wait for extra ballots. First Nations have been pivotal to this debate already.

On the news, it looks like, generously, a couple of hundred separatists showed up at AB legislature to protest. A year ago I joined tens of thousands of Alberta teachers in a protest there and could not get the premier’s attention. These clowns get to hold a nation hostage! 😡

I just confirmed my ballots have been received and cast in Alberta’s costly, divisive, and unnecessary referendum. I usually vote early then volunteer for GOTV and scrutineering on voting day, but mail in is sure a nice way to avoid the line ups.

The campground I’m spending the week at has four peafowl and the cries those things make at sunrise and sunset are something else! Sometimes it sounds like a child calling for help. Other times it’s a wounded cat. The calls never sound native to the forests of BC, Canada!

I was at a party with extended family yesterday and talk turned to AB separatism. Everyone had a reason for leaving AB if things go the wrong way - the young, the educated, the LGBTQ. Even acknowledging the probable losses on our homes, everyone planned to walk away. I doubt we’re alone in that.

8 year old neighbour saw me working compost into the raised bed and insisted on coming to help. We laid out square foot grid and before I knew what was happening her enthusiasm had resulted in planting all the seeds. Before May long! I drew the line at my seedlings but my bad if YYC winter returns.

I think Canadian Tire have gotten a bit ahead of themselves. This is in Calgary, where it’s 4 degrees Celsius and the snow is expected to start within the hour. These plants won’t be able to stay outdoors for at least another six weeks!
