If you’re building something — and moving fast — the tools you use matter. Here are 5 most powerful tools I rely on every single day as a tech CEO, developer, and team leader. They save me HOURS as my business grows.

It’s been over a year since I last shared how things are going at @calisteniapp.com. I keep putting it off because I never find the time to do it. So here’s a quick recap.

Every now and then I look back and think about all the opportunities I missed, all the trains I didn’t board simply because I didn’t know better. But none of that matters now, because things happen when and how they’re meant to. The only thing I care about is the trains that are still coming.

If you’ve made it this far, congrats—you’ve survived quite the ramble. If you don’t follow me yet and want to see how we move forward in the coming months… what are you waiting for?

Where are we now? We’ve got speed, a solid team, and lots left to improve. Since last Christmas, we’ve been fixing all the “obvious but hard” issues in the product. We’re slowly growing again and steadily improving and optimizing all our metrics.

But the most important thing is that we’re still laser-focused on the ultimate goal: building the best tool to help people achieve their health and fitness goals. The product is everything. Our values guide the path toward building something we’re proud of.

I’m not one of those people who looks back and tortures themselves over what they could’ve done differently. At every point, we made the best decision we could with the information we had. Sometimes, we just take the only path available.

I did it. We did it. It wasn’t easy—maybe the toughest period physically and mentally since co-founding the app. But it launched. There were hiccups and some friction from resistance to change, but after a few weeks, we stabilized everything.

Then we moved to the next step: finding a partner in crime. I tend to believe things happen when they’re meant to—or maybe I just got lucky. But after just a few interviews, I found @achamorro_dev, who joined the project last December.

If there’s one truth, it’s that time is limited. And for now, I can’t split myself in two. That said, we learned a lot (I’ve shared more about these events and initiatives in other posts).

We also made the mistake early on in the migration of trying to do other things in parallel—like brand identity work. We figured we’d hibernate product-wise, but start building community, hosting events, launching initiatives, etc., while the big migration was underway.

So last year, I decided to pause everything and focus 100% on rewriting Calisteniapp. Not the easiest call—we were sacrificing growth—but I had to go all in. It was rebirth or bust. We had to accept the opportunity cost.

The whole year, we pretty much didn’t grow (flat flat). Acquisition was down, organic channels were saturated, no updates, campaigns paused due to product issues bleeding money, interest in calisthenics declining, and competition in health & fitness rising…

If it worked out right away, great. If not, it would’ve cost time and money (recruiting, negotiating, onboarding, and waiting to see if value is delivered takes months), only to end up in the same spot.

I’ve talked about this before—Calisteniapp had serious technical debt (code that was hard and slow to change) and a huge bottleneck (me, as the only developer and wearing every hat).

That’s why it was necessary—or at least the smartest move—to go all-in on unlocking that bottleneck, through two main actions: a) Rewriting the app in a faster, cleaner stack. Laying a solid foundation to scale. b) Talent. I needed to stop being the bottleneck, no matter what.

The first step was to fix all the low-hanging fruit—things that were fast, easy, and obvious. Like a beginner in the gym, the first few months of work bring obvious, quick wins. Until the obvious stuff runs out.

Until… we got stuck. Why? Mainly for the most obvious reasons. I’ll break down some of them here. Honestly, it wasn’t a surprise. It was actually the most likely scenario in our roadmap. Because yes, to some extent, it was all part of a “master plan.”

To recap, about two years ago we decided to turn everything upside down. We officially registered the company, got the basics in order, implemented some processes, and tried every quick win we could find.

The results were amazing. We multiplied active users, boosted acquisition, went viral on social media (from 30k to 150k organically in under a year), doubled our monthly revenue, and the market was looking good (rising interest in calisthenics). It was all pretty wild.

A lot has happened—more than it should have and less than I’d like. But you know how it is: expectations have a nasty habit of staying ahead of reality.

Becoming two in the development team has been one of the most important milestones since we started Calisteniapp. Not because we move faster, but because now we share the pressure. Being alone is incredibly tough.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve found myself switching from my code editor to the browser, only to catch a glimpse of a Slack message while looking for the right window. Without even realizing it, I’d quickly start replying and forget what I was doing or where I was going.

Inspired by this idea, I decided to incorporate keyboard shortcuts for the main applications in my workflow, allowing me to quickly navigate to where I need to go—without potential distractions.

If you’d like to try it and you’re a Mac user, I’ve set this up with Hyperkey + @raycast.com . I’d say this is the simplest way. This change has allowed me to complete tasks not only faster but also with greater focus. By eliminating distractions, I can stay in a state of deep concentration.

In recent weeks, I’ve been reflecting a lot on simplifying. And I’m not talking about productivity, but about eliminating noise—making tools work for me, not the other way around.

Everything changed when I saw a video by @ped.ro , where @mxstbr.com shared his idea of always staying in his workflow, ensuring his tools adapt to the speed and order of his mind, minimizing distractions and interruptions as much as possible. The goal: not losing momentum in whatever you’re doing.

It's so great to see how, little by little, we can start paying attention to the details. Being able to gradually tackle those tasks we never had time for or that were never a priority. It feels amazing to be able to launch things with care again on Calisteniapp.

The more I stumble, the more certain I am that all problems in life arise from the conflict between expectations and reality. This applies to every area: personal, professional, and familial. Aligning these is no easy task, but when achieved, remarkable things happen.

For years, I chased productivity hacks to do more in the same time, but it always led to burnout. This year, I’m focusing on doing less, saying no more, and simplifying everything to its essentials.

It’s super easy to set up. You can use it from the control center or even configure it to activate with the customizable button if you have an iPhone 15 or later. It doesn’t just correct text—using the Custom function, you can do anything as if you were in a conversation with ChatGPT.

The iOS Shortcut analyzes the text you select: - Corrects spelling and grammar errors. - Adjusts the tone based on your needs. - Restructures your messages to fit emails, WhatsApp, Slack, and more. - Custom use: applies specific changes for each case and application.

Spelling and consistency checking for long documents with Claude/ChatGPT has been one of the most life-changing use cases for me. No more misspellings or things that went under the radar—fast, efficient, and clean. So many hours saved.

I think 'disposable software' is becoming a thing. Lately, I've been creating small tools to solve specific problems with AI, without worrying about optimization, testing, or best practices. I just make it work to solve a problem and then delete the project immediately.

You are up to date.
