So the Black Tapes news has made me kinda go a bit feral because there's SOMETHING IN ALL OF US that wants conspiracy fiction. It's one of the reasons X-Files was so popular, and Lost and so many other series out there. I think it's why crime fiction was so big as well back in the day.

Let me be real though, Black Tapes was fucking great, but also DEEPLY annoying. The level of repetition (while fitting for the genre it was attempting to pretend to be) was INFURIATING. BUT I KEEP GOING BACK TO IT. Because it did the MYSTERY so well. Let's just not talk about the last season.

WHAT I WANT: A LONG STANDING MYSTERY THAT REVEALS GOOD SHIT EVERY COUPLE OF EPISODES THAT KEEPS ME INTRIGUED. What I get: mostly not that. but i understand that this is seriously fucking difficult to do.

If I can ever crack the hot as fuck older guy MC or Villain I will be so fucking rich. All my old guys are too fucking nice and actually listen to their female co-protagonists and take their concerns seriously.

Also you don't have to be original in this? NO ONE IS GRADING YOU? My children are bright, effortlessly handsome, witty and cool. I'm THEIR MUM SO OF COURSE I THINK THAT.

In any case, the first step is something they should be able to do if they know their kid, the second step is something they should be able to do if they have basic skills in literacy. She fails on both counts.

Contemplating: I'm wondering if this is a teacher going "I actually don't know which parent this child belongs to and someone is coming to pick them up in ten minutes and I have no idea if I'm going to be complicit in a kidnapping" vibes.

Imogen Cassidy@imogenwrites.bsky.social

Also I have an issue with the question in the first place because why the hell is the teacher asking the parent to "BULLET POINT" their kid, but that's a different problem. As a teacher any description of a kid I teach by a parent is immediately going into the "skeptical" box.

There's two parts to the stupid as all hell "parent has to ask AI to describe their kid problem". One is actually knowing their kid (which I doubt this person does) and the other is summarising all the things they know about their kid into core traits.

You can keep your Jarchivists and your Martins and your Jareds and All Of The Michaels. That said, special mention to Gwen, whatever I might have expected from a relation to a previous character, Gwen... was not it, and she's glorious.

ive talked on how i wont engage with writers who use ai, i wont eat at a restaurant with an ai menu, i wont have anything to do with it. but what this post illustrates is regardless of how OTHERS react, ultimately the worst part about using ai is that you are punishing YOURSELF and dont even know it

AS AN EXTRA TO THIS THREAD WHILE I AM NOT SAD ABOUT BIOWARE BEING SHUT DOWN I AM FUCKING FURIOUS ABOUT THE LAYOFFS AND THE GENERAL STATE OF THE GAME INDUSTRY BECAUSE THESE PEOPLE DESERVE BETTER AND ARE BEING FUCKED OVER ON A ROYALLY HUGE SCALE.

Imogen Cassidy@imogenwrites.bsky.social

I am not desperately sad about Bioware being shut down as a studio because that's been on the cards for a decade, honestly, what I'm sad about is the IDEA of Bioware, that there was a studio out there that was creating games specifically to my tastes from WHEN I WAS A TEENY GAMER TOT.

Like, that previous thread is about Bioware as an entity which has been dying, as I said, for nearly a decade. THE PEOPLE WHO WORKED THERE THOUGH? THEY DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER THAN THIS SHIT.

There were so many flaws in all of their games but I was willing to accept them because I could work around them with my own stories. Much as I love and adore games like Hades and Slay the Princess and Stardew Valley I don't get the opportunity to build a story the same way.

Yes, there are other computer game RPGs, Owlcat and Larian have put there paws in, but it's not the same, and I'm going to miss Bioware's impact in that space. And I worry that there won't be anything to replace it.

They made games that were specifically catered to what I wanted, story based RPGS that let me centre my character, YES MINE in the middle of world changing events. That included queer romances. That cared about lore.

Writing "advice" drives me bonky, ngl but I get where it comes from. There SHOULD be a magic trick to writing well but in the end it comes from reading a lot, talking to people about it and then turning around and WRITING a lot, and talking about THAT.

And look, I know I have an English degree and I was an English teacher, but learning how to analyse texts also fucking helps. But that's what talking about texts is, in the end. So you can do it without one.

Was chatting with my MIL (who is about to turn eighty) yesterday and she's understandably disillusioned with politics etc as are we all but the big thing she said about one of the parties in her area was that "they never run anyone we KNOW".

And nowadays, the people my MIL KNOW are... to put it frankly, right wing nutjobs. Because those are the people that live in her area. And those are the people who are campaigning for the parties that most of the people in that area are going to vote for.

Government in smaller towns across Australia is something that the larger parties just. do. not. get. It's personal. Because OF COURSE major parties are going to cater to what the MAJORITY want, and guess where the MAJORITY IS?

But my MIL grew up in a time where the local candidate (and yes they were deffo not in a party I would ever have voted for, but she lived in an area where NONE of the candidates that were tabled would give a shit about me personally) was the butcher, or the corner shop owner. Someone they KNEW.

If there were any justice in the world, every day would be #WorldWombatDay, but today is the official day to celebrate these glorious creatures that crush their enemies with their buttocks, dig burrows tens of metres long, constantly regrow their teeth, have babies called wombatlets, and poop cubes.

I've been saying this stuff for years (although not in the hilarious way this guy puts it). It's why I won't watch Jaws again. And it's why every time I have watched Jaws, ever since I was old enough to give it some proper consideration, I've been 100% on the shark's side.

excited to learn that our small TTRPG studio made $80.7bn more profit in the first half of 2026 than Anthropic! plus so far no one internally has raised any concerns that the Malignancies from Hollows are going to come to life and start dragging people into horrid otherworlds, so. win-win
