It’s hard to be hopeful for Philadelphia when everyone who hears the first half of this sentiment assumes I’m inferring a football team.

It’s gonna sound contrived but I was at a S Philly block party in a dad circle drinking Coors Lites when we started sharing anecdotes about abuses inflicted by our dads, laughing awkwardly. “But it ends with us,” was the unanimous take. It looks different everywhere but I feel like help is here.

I started bricking my phone on weekdays entirely, and am feeling noticeably and remarkably more alert. I had one evening with IG and BS and feel like I need to do a lot more for the resistance. That’s the entire observation.

I just left a rich discussion with peers in community aid organizing, on power building in the AANHPI arts ecology beyond representational politics. I returned to my hotel room and turned on my tv but the remote can’t change channels & now won’t turn off. It’s stuck on a Steven Segal movie…

Kinda freaking out. I only **thought** about buying better house slippers. I never looked anything up. But I’m getting them advertised at me like it’s gonna save my life. I know this is the way surveillance predictive advertising works but it’s still so scary.

Do friends have book recommendations for a really reluctant 2nd grade reader…? ps my kid beats himself up when he doesn’t know words and is embarrassed by how slowly he reads in class. Now he’s falling behind in reading/writing; I suspect there may be dyslexia at play; I dunno what to do. ☹️

I’ve been going back to Ordinary Notes @hystericalblkns.bsky.social a lot this year bc we’re in an America that commits murder with impunity on one hand and enables white guilt polemicism on the other. This sentence hits me hard: “Every memorial and museum to atrocity already contains its failure.”

That intergenerational trauma demonstration with a glass of dark liquid being diluted with fresh water over time, except it’s poo.

I love in IG when a poster is trying to respond to a troll but doesn’t -at them, so it looks like they’re yelling at their own post. “Believe in women! Fuck you Tony!”

For my notes, just remarking on a huge disinvestment of labor from public works which leads to Route 1, private enterprise solutions for services. Route 2, cooperative living and mutual aid. Route 3, anarchy (benevolent or malevolent). Blend of all is our current status. How bad is that?

💓💓💓 This is a beautiful romantic comedy of manners set inside home cuisine, puns and innuendo, during the Pandemic. I’m so proud of the work. Find it at your bookstore! @gengorohtagame.bsky.social does it again. 🍛🍱🥘🍙🍤🍥🍲🍝🍨🥮🥧🍿☕️🍻

I bristle at this lede, or rather, the culture of fascination we are enabling while ICE in its covenant of terror kidnaps so many people responsible for making it “the best time ever right now” for good food.

There has never been a better time for Mexican food in the United States. A culinary renaissance over the last 15 years has expanded the American palate well beyond Tex-Mex, tacos and game-night nachos. nyti.ms/4ztiCxb

Basic Competence, a sequel to Basic Instinct where That One Scene is just a guy crossing his legs and saying “you’re right, I’m sorry” to a woman.

So I started running mid distance a couple months ago when I quit my last job and it was incredible for my mental health and of course, cardiovascular health (nightmare for my knees). A friend challenged me to sign up for a 10k and it made all the sense in the world at the time.

I left feeling so much anxiety. Why did I sign up for this when I could be sleeping on sunday morning. I could be running alone on the river… I COULD BE FRIGGIN DRUMMING. I text my sister (a marathoner) that I’m panicking. She says before I can: ugh health runners are the worst. Be slow and weird.

I just went to pick up my “race bib” at a Hoka sponsored pre race party and as I walked through the entrance immediately felt a wave of regret and panic. This is a crowd I don’t associate with even remotely. Shredded health nuts. Microbrew obsessed real estate oglers. H’white beyond description.
