Then show your work. Publish the repo, write a short post, share what broke. One piece of advice: this week, build a small proof of concept you've always wanted, with a coding agent. Then publish it, together with what you learned.

Using AI at work isn't enough. Build the thing you've always wanted to build. With coding agents, that takes evenings, not months, and that experience is what makes you valuable at work.

Pay for AI yourself and use it on your own code. If your company doesn't allow AI, keep your subscription away from its code and your clients' code. A $20 plan is enough to start. Treat it as an investment, not a cost.

I still know engineers who say they won't use AI. AI won't replace them. Engineers who use it every day will. Without AI, the work is too slow compared to theirs. They try more ideas, ship more, and still have time to check what they ship.

Doing more has consequences too: far more code to review and a very different way of working. You'll discover that along the way, and it's normal. More on that in future posts.

Claude Haiku 5.5 is out, almost a year after Haiku 4.5. On paper, it was worth the wait. Per million tokens, for prompts up to 100K: Input: $0.10 (Haiku 4.5: $1) Output: $0.50 (Haiku 4.5: $5) Longer prompts cost half as much as on Haiku 4.5. Anthropic puts the average saving at around 75%.

Same update: Sonnet 5.5 cache reads drop from $0.20 to $0.10 per million tokens. Anthropic puts the saving at around 20% on most agentic work, in line with my own estimate. With Haiku taking the right subagent work, I expect my Claude Max plans to go much further.

I expect it to earn a place as a subagent on well-specified work: implementing a plan, triage in code review, codebase research. Sonnet and Opus keep complex agentic coding. Prompting guide tip: at low and medium effort it sometimes reports a change as done without running a check. Name the check.

Could Gemini 4 Argon replace Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, GPT-6 Astra, or GPT-6.1 Sol? Access is still restricted. Argon leads Google's DeepSWE comparison, but trails Opus and Astra on FrontierSWE. I'd evaluate specific tasks before changing a default.

Vals' Mini-SWE-agent terminal runs put Argon behind Opus, Sonnet, and Astra. It scores above Sol 6.1, but costs about 10x as much per test at the published API rates. Some Claude tasks used fallbacks. That doesn't establish value under my subscriptions.

I though I already love Zed. Then they had released v1. Now, they just released Terminal Threads. Thanks for all the team at @zed.dev!

Zed@zed.dev

This is especially useful for Claude Code users.Β  With upcoming changes to their pricing, Terminal Threads will be the only way to use Claude Code in Zed with your existing subscription.

Re-reading "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People". The 1st Habit - "Be Proactive" - reads differently when you're a product engineer, an AI engineer, or principal-ish on your team. It's not "take initiative". It's about where you choose to spend your attention.

Covey's distinction: Circle of Concern (everything you care about) vs Circle of Influence (what you can actually affect). Most engineers I know - drown in the Concern circle. Model news, org politics, every team's stack choices.

3/3 The proactive move is counterintuitive: shrink the Concern circle, expand the Influence one. AI engineer: stop chasing releases, ship the eval. Product engineer: stop reading the roadmap, talk to five users. Principal: pick the two places where you actually move the system. Sick! πŸ’ͺ🏻

So far I prefer VS Code as I've tried Claude Code (through VS Code and Copilot πŸ˜…) and Copilot CLI - options unrelated to the IDE seems to be faster. I mean, Claude Code or Codex have different architecture and they are faster, but it's also related to Copilot CLI. What are your thoughts?

I'm a co-author if the really nice repository to work with #ai using #copilot at #vscode for teams. It's like spec-driven development with human-in-the-loop at the each step. My favourite approach when working on the huge, enterprise projects. Link #repository: github.com/TheSoftwareH...

Open question for everyone using #bsky - do you still use #x X ( #twitter Twitter) or you don't anymore? I currently use only BSky but not sure if I should re-post everything there to maximise reach. Actually I don't like the policy of X so I didn't do that. πŸ€” What's your opinion?

Recently I've been experimenting a lot πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» with different ways of creating customisations for Copilot, HeyAlice app, and interactions with LLMs in general (system prompts, prompts). The final conclusion 🎯 is - XML-like tags are πŸ’― clear winner. #copilot #vscode #context #anthropic #openai #ai

To be honest what I can observe is that when I migrate from pure MD-like approach to XML-like in .md files you can actually use less text to describe something. The structure of a #prompt is self-explanatory for modern #llm models. πŸš€

XML-like approach might be a little bit context-heavy. But hey, results are so much better with such structured approach. No matter if you work with #copilot in #vscode, #llm in general or apps like #heyalice - it works great.

Opus 4.6 from #anthropic is really good at #copilot and #vscode. I've been testing it since the launch. πŸš€ Now I'm waiting for the GPT-5.3-Codex from #openai, I'm really curious how they will compare. πŸ€”

If you are into #copilot and #vscode, you might not know that I work on my copilot-kit repository. It's just been updated with really nice prompt to generate single custom instruction, works nicely for both greenfield and legacy apps. 1/2

I've found myself writing such instruction on my own more times than I would expect. I just experiment a lot with different ideas recently. Here's the link to this #project #repository : github.com/ikcode-dev/c... Working on the next things related with such jump-start prompts. πŸš€ Stay tuned!

What a fortnight it has been. A lot of stuff is happening when it comes to "work", a lot is happening when it comes to my YouTube and further experimenting with different #copilot and #vscode features. So much happened: - GPT-5.2 Preview available in GH Copilot πŸ”₯ - v1.107 of VS Code πŸš€

Another thing that greatly improves my outcomes are #okr OKRs. I've almost finished John Doerr's "Measure What Matters" - it's brilliant. OKRs are wonderful. I work on #ikcode brand together with my wife (thank you!), and we started to utilise #okr to stay more focused and what really matters. ⚑πŸ’ͺ

More deliverables are going to improve and enhance my future productions for my #youtube channel #ikcode. πŸ”₯ New topics related to #vscode and #copilot are coming soon.

Until the end of 5 December Opus 4.5 will be at a promotional price in #copilot #vscode #agentmode - 1 premium request. After that price will change - 3 premium requests. If you want to know more definitely watch the video from the first message in this thread. πŸ”₯ #claudeopus #anthropic

Ha! I'm amazed how well Claude Opus 4.5 works in #vscode #copilot. 🀩 Remember to try it out because there is a promo right now - Claude Opus 4.5 costs only 1 premium request in #copilot. What is better, for few days Opus 4.5 is finally available in the #copilot #agentmode - fantastic news! ❀️

I have so many different ideas. 🧠 Before I used #linear to handle all my important #projects, I often ended with working on something one day, to drop the idea completely the next day. Then I started working on the next idea, which I quickly abandoned again. Now I can #focus and DELIVER. πŸš€

Of course I have more initiatives, in them you can group "projects", and then tasks. I must admit this is really nice. Probably the best part of the #linear is how they pursue good #ux and overall #productivity for users. I love all the keyboard shortcuts - makes things really faster.

Finally, as #softwareengineer I updated my "private" #macbook pro M1 to the MacOS 26 Tahoe. I was scared a little bit, but zero problems so far. What I must admit is that #apple is really good into UI/UX, I love the change and feeling of the new OS version. Also, I found the "phone" app useful πŸš€

Hello Team! Long time no... write? If you are into #copilot and #vscode - I added new prompts to my repository - github.com/ikcode-dev/c... I use them at day-to-day job to improve code quality and they work great. Feel free to test them out! Let me know what you think. πŸ€”

Finally, I plan to really boost and develop this repository. After some testing of another #codingagents and #codeeditors I know that I'm going to stay with #vscode and #copilot for quite some time. Beside of that I always feel deep β™₯️ for #zed, so sometimes I'm going to use it too. πŸ˜…

I do so many things and I can't get used to writing regularly. πŸ˜… For anyone interested, for few days I've been testing Chrome Dev Tools MCP using #vscode and #copilot - that works great. Highly recommend to test it out! I've also updated my CopilotKit repository - github.com/ikcode-dev/c...
