(Reuters) - Bluesky is adding millions of users as people flee X after Donald Trump was elected and as an upcoming change to the terms of service threatens to complicate legal challenges for X. Bluesky has gained about 2.5 million new users. "1 million new users in one day alone," Bluesky said.

We sincerely thank Jack for his help funding and initiating the bluesky project. Today, Bluesky is thriving as an open source social network running on atproto, the decentralized protocol we have built.

The Nostr community is holding a conference in November in Hong Kong and Tokyo. I'll be speaking talking about amongst other things trust, safety, and moderation over Nostr. More interesting, Edward Snowden will also be speaking! Come join us in person or online! iris.to/note1jylpxch...

Why Nostr? You don’t want large tech companies, such as Meta or X, to hold & be in charge of all your data. You want to use social media to communicate with people online in an ad-free, algorithm-free environment, like you used to years ago. Just humans being humans w/o software getting in the way.

Nostr fixes social media. It's decentralized and censorship resistant. It's the social protocol to fix everything wrong with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky. Nostr is just humans being humans. No algorithms. No ads. No fighting. It's just beautiful. https://youtu.be/aA-jiiepOrE

Why did bluesky feel like a utopia when it got its first wave of users? How did that fall apart? And how can we design systems that retain that feeling as they grow in to sustainability? I wrote up an essay about it, because it was too much for a skeet. https://bit.ly/42fm8JG

I’m confused. There are all these demands on the Bluesky team around moderation and removing accounts. What do folks think will happen when the actual multi-server network is turned on. Then the open moderation lists and services need to work or else you’ll just see the banned folks back again.

New feature just dropped: custom feeds! Now you can choose what algorithm powers your social media experience. We’ll feature some in this thread, but you can easily discover more in the feeds tab. Rolling out to app stores now — upgrade to Version 1.29 when it’s available in your app store.

Introducing SkyFeed v0.4.4 • brand new Discover page with instant search for all custom feeds on the network • save/unsave/pin/unpin feeds you like (syncs with the official app) • show feeds published by user on profile page • support custom feed embeds • like custom feeds ⇒ https://skyfeed.app

Playing around with building custom feed generators, currently have a PositiviFeed which curates all (English) posts with a positive sentiment confidence of > 0.65, also a Hellthread feed which includes ALL posts in the hellthread in realtime. Try them now at https://skyfeed.app/#/ by @ottr.sh

We have 500k+ users on relays that are actually decentralized. nostr is not a product, its a protocol, and there are 30+ clients. UX is something can be improved over time, not foundational architectural flaws. bluesky does seem like a scam in comparison.
