The other day, I got a press release claiming that ER visits among kids linked to e-bike crashes had increased *19.1 times over* in just 3 years. It almost certainly isn't true —  but the injured children are very real. Broke down what's really causing the bloodshed and who can finally stop it.

TLDR; there are a massive number of overseas manufacturers who are making their living off regulatory loopholes that make it too easy to import dangerous e-motorcycles if you *call* them e-bikes, or add enough "e-bike-like" features to get past customs. And often, they're being marketed to kids.

I just posted about this yesterday. I can do a certain amount of "Vote Blue No Matter Who" when a candidate fumbles a question in an interview or town hall. You run an anti-trans ad? I'll undervote the ticket. Full stop. You don't sellout marginalized communities AND get my vote.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

Google was really trying to hide its water use figures, to the degree that it got the council to try to keep its water use figures secret. The community finally got the actual numbers and found out Google was using 29 percent of the water in the community. www.wired.com/story/what-t...

My plan was to finish up my first neighborhood today, and 26 miles later, I got a twofer! St. Louis Hills was lovely but serpentine, and it is badly in need of some pavement patching. Mackenzie, on the other hand, was so quick I didn’t even realize I’d finished it! #stl #RideEveryRoad #wandrer

Was up in the super cute neighborhood of North Pointe today. I started on my final third of the city and kept bouncing between Jennings and the city limits.

The signs we have to put up in #stl because speeding drivers keep running into buildings like this one. 🧐

Because I’ve been walking in the Walnut Park neighborhoods and Penrose, I’m noticing so many more ramps at houses than anywhere else in the city. It’s clear to me that we don’t have systems in place to account for the ability to age in place, and this is going to lead to more vacancy.

A must read for St. Louisans from @stlpublicradio.bsky.social and @themarshallproject.org.

St. Louis Public Radio@stlpublicradio.bsky.social

At least 22 people have died at St. Louis’ City Justice Center since 2020. A review by @themarshallproject.org and STLPR found recurring failures in medical and mental health care, staffing and detainee monitoring.

This is how I found out what I did before my 5th Long Island iced tea. And somehow all of that happened before 10 pm.

I drank way too much in Nashville but I’m explaining urbanism to folks and we’re 4 Long Island iced teas in and they don’t appreciate daylighting as much as me but I know I can win them over

This coverage doesn’t even mention that if approved, STL City will have the highest base sales tax in the entire state. There are a lot of concerning things about this initiative which is probably why Labor Club has recommended voting no.

St. Louis Public Radio@stlpublicradio.bsky.social

St. Louis voters will decide whether to raise the city’s sales tax by half a cent to fund early childhood education. Supporters say the measure could generate $22 million a year to help families afford child care and keep providers from closing.

Completed St. Louis neighborhood 34 today: Boulevard Heights. It is honestly one of my least favorite neighborhoods but I might be biased due to the many hills and lack of sidewalks. It could be much better if they added sidewalks. Greenways are not a substitute.

Now I’m seeing a lot of traffic on 70 and tons of sirens. Looks like lots of drama on St. Louis highways today.

A dozen plus cop cars blocking 55N this morning, from what I could see on 44.

As someone quickly approaching 2/3 of St. Louis walked, this is so true. The things I used to drive to seem ridiculous to me. Walkability is both access to resources and a mindset.

Courtney Milan@courtneymilan.com

P.S. I spent the month of September walking everywhere I could. The question of what is walkable really is determined by how much you walk.

Let’s practice some if/then statements: If you want your contract reviewed, then complete the contract intake If I tagged you on a question, then assume it’s because I’m not a psychic and need an answer If you want your contract back today, then answer my fucking questions where I tagged you 4 times

And please just hop on a call with us. If I am still dealing with this next February I will scream. You know why you are confused about the LOL cap? BECAUSE YOU WON’T ACCEPT THE REDLINES AROUND IT. YOU WON’T TAKE A CALL. YOU LIKE TORTURING EVERYONE AROUND YOU.

Back to my business “partners”: If you’d like to know when I’ll share a draft back with you, then check your inbox. I sent it two days ago. At 9:30 pm. After a 13-hour work day. Because you insisted you needed it ASAP to close a deal. If you think I’ll do that again for you, then good luck.

And for my counterparties: If you agree with my redlines, then accept them. Please. I’m begging you. Why do we still have unaccepted redlines since February? Why are your turns taking 6 weeks when we literally are only debating LoL and why isn’t that time being spent accepting redlines.

I’m just so baffled by the St. Louis train horn debacle, and it raises Qs about tech handovers. When someone leaves city hall, do they just immediately decommission the email? Do they not set up an auto-reply for a given period of time? Do they not set up email forwarding to the new incumbent? #stl

It grinds my gears when we start rewriting history. It’s even little things, like letting a PR justification become the narrative when those who lived it know what really happened. That applies to even local things, like alley recycling ending. For years the city couldn’t maintain pickups.

To be fair, my trash does get picked up weekly now. Sometimes even twice a week as promised. I have to cross a deadly corridor to recycle so I don’t. The city could easily improve recycling rates by adding more drop off sites but they won’t. They intend to privatize instead.

The contamination came b/c trucks would miss routes for weeks and then pick up trash and recycling at once. People put trash in recycling bins b/c twice a month pickups meant we had nowhere else to put it. They stopped recycling long before they announced it.
