reading a book and learning cool words like “vertiginous” (causing vertigo esp. by being extremely high or steep)

saw an anime fansub from the 00s that translated bibimbap as “vivinba” and it’s been living rent free in my head ever since

TIL you can earn money on Reddit via getting “rewards” on your posts, and this has created monetary incentive for bot farmers

when I meet someone at an event and give them a business card, then I get back “I don’t have business cards” and they flash their LinkedIn QR code at me instead… that’s rude dawg, making someone use LinkedIn like that! just bring business cards! Normal sized ones

yes it is old fashioned and inconvenient. It is more of an etiquette and baseline social norms thing than anything else a little piece of paper doesn’t assume the other person spends their time on a cursed posting app

Found all my portables today, unfortunately left in a box in the garage all summer. All were ok except one… rip US region 3DS battery. System itself seems undamaged thankfully

PSA if you leave lithium batteries in a hot garage they can blow up so don’t do that. I didn’t know where this stuff was after we moved

An X-Men game was intended for release for the SEGA 32X, but was cancelled. New footage of this game emerged from our E3 1995 archives showing Wolverine... well, wander around aimlessly for a bit. https://archive.gamehistory.org/item/92b1039b-bed4-4454-a312-d25bc6b88958

can y’all quit sharing the slop food pics? it’s so disgusting, and what’s worse is I can’t effectively filter it from discords or social TL overall not a fan of sharing slop just to laugh or groan at it… sharing still amplifies, normalizes, and puts it in front of more eyeballs

Had a dream that an enterprising dev made a very robust Satellaview emulator for Wii U. But they were cheeky, and they made the start up and menu sounds be the exact ones from X-Men for Sega Genesis. And you could only play it by hooking a SNES Classic controller up to a Wii Remote (no Wii U Pro).

Got a copy of Real-Time Cameras (2009) by Mark Haigh-Hutchinson, and started cracking into it. Mark was a programmer on titles like Metroid Prime and Star Wars Episode I Racer.

I didn’t realize that this book was basically his final work before he passed away from cancer. Indeed, he worked on it while shipping Prime 3, and continued as his health declined. His colleagues endeavored to finish the book and get it published after he passed. Truly a tome. Gotta respect it

Really goes to show that a lot of aspects of this craft are hard-earned and timeless. As game developers we owe it to ourselves to digest the knowledge of those left before us, and keep pushing it forward.

Watched Tokyo Story (東京物語) for my first time yesterday. A very melancholy and human film. Masterful use of the space between tatemae (建前) and honne (本音) as emotional vocabulary
