Currently waiting for the arrival of this very delayed train which I fully expect to be full of sheep disguised in the clothes of the unfortunate human passengers who got on at Baarnsley 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑

Bots from Dazzle AI were trying hard to steal content from Huddersfield Exposed last week. I can't wait to celebrate the rapidly approaching AI bubble burst.

Saddened to hear that news that Keith Gibson has passed away. I last chatted to him a couple of years ago when he was on a mission to identify the architect of the former Queen Street Chapel (now the Lawrence Batley Theatre).

Partly answering my own question -- here's a 1991 newspaper photo showing Keith holding his young daughter Rosie. The cheque being passed was money raised at a fundraiser event held at Tunnel End, Marsden.

Keith worked for many years as a planning officer for Kirklees. If you've ever wondered why Huddersfield has so many historic buildings that are now have listed status, do raise a drink and thank Keith for his hard work in that area.

Looks like the exploit should trip OWASP rules 932200 (RCE Bypass Technique), 933100 (PHP Injection Attack), 942440 (SQL Comment Sequence Detected) & 943120 (Possible Session Fixation Attack).

The above looks like a check to detect if the server is vulnerable to the exploit, rather than an attempt to deploy the backdoor shell which gives the attacker control of the server.

In case anyone's not bothered to patch their servers, too late -- hackers are already busy using the new PHP exploit in the wild. Good news is that if you're running OWASP rules at paranoid level 2 and blocking at the default score, you should be covered without patching.

Confirmation that the website used by the Huddersfield Examiner for their article is indeed fraudulent, courtesy of the Friends of Greenhead Park.

Cheers Tim! The site (which does appear to be a genuine charity) is bizarrely full of AI generated images.

The site appears to be hosted by SquareSpace who proudly boast just how quickly and easily you too can create a scam website using their AI generator. Welcome to the future of the web. folks 🙁

Designed by Sir Charles Nicholson, the memorial was inscribed simply "In Memoriam 1914-1918" with local memorials elsewhere taking on the role of listing their fallen. In 1948, the inscription "1939-1945" was added.

There's so much AI slop and factually incorrect information on the site that I don't honestly believe it can be genuine. The domain name was registered a few months ago. The site makes repeated references to the memorial in Greenhead Park having the names of the dead -- rather notably, it doesn't.

Genuinely bizarre that the local rag can't even find a photograph of Huddersfield war memorial. The image used appears to be AI generated (according to multiple online test tools) which might explain the generous legroom for the second row.

The press who were covering the Royal Visit to the West Riding mostly had no idea what was going on as the unveiling wasn't part of the scheduled itinerary for the day, hence began a persistent rumour that the grumpy King had steadfastly refused to get out of the car to do a proper unveiling.

Prior to the unveiling, the King and Queen had driven through Greenhead Park where they were formally welcomed to Huddersfield by the Mayor. Perhaps pushing his luck, the Mayor had cheekily asked if the King wouldn't mind doing a quick rope tug since they'd be driving past the Infirmary anyway.

Something for fellow web admins... I've spotted this happening before but Microsoft seems to be ramping it up to another level. If your site has a search facility, MS are using bingbot to trigger random searches, even if you've blocked the search URL in your robots.txt.

If it's not MS behind it, has another AI company figured out a method to hijack MS Bing to use it to proxy content requests? Other weird and wonderful search queries run by Bing's bots (rather than a human user) on Huddersfield Exposed today include "Which zoos have pandas?" (in Japanese).

Here's the most recent example from my server logs, requested by IP 40.77.167.25 (verified as a Bing crawler). My Brazilian is a little rusty, but apparently it's a search for: Congratulations! I have a house on Maria Antônia Fragola Camargos street. I am happy and grateful.

This isn't MS Bing's bots following an existing link to index the content, it's Bing generating new links. On most websites, the search facility is relatively expensive (in the sense of server resources such as CPU and memory), so the last thing you want are bots hammering it with random searches.
