None of this will be a surprise - but anyone thinking AI is actually intelligent and not a big word association pattern recogniser is in for a rough life.

At the Hound Small Bar for Daniel Muggleton. Amusing myself woth Shazam on their music choices. They're good. Strong Welsh lean though. Although we're in Ireland with a 2019 track from Fontaines DC right now #standupcomedy

I just noticed 'V/r," at the end of an email. Had to look it up; "Very respectfully". Somehow using an abbreviation of that phrase doesn't feel very respectful. thx for att to this mtr.

I saw this quote from the UWA VC “With 10 per cent share of population WA contributes 20 per cent to Australia’s GDP." And it made me wonder why no-one ever says "With 33 per cent of the land mass WA contributes 20 per cent to Australia's GDP."

If god told Adam and Eve to replenish the Earth in Genesis 1:28 that's sort of an admission it had previously been fucked up/depleted/exhausted.

Meanwhile in Australia, any health professional who dares draw attention to Israel's deliberate targeting of doctors and health facilities in Gaza risks being called out for "antisemitism". Thanks to the health regulatory body #AHPRA caving in to Jillian Segal. #GazaGenocide #auspol

Great piece. Highlighted for me the class hit job of the RBA’s actions; increasing inflation to increase unemployment when their rises have forced mortgagees into multiple jobs/more hours to service higher mortgage rates. thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/economy...

thesaturdaypaper.com.auCould a German economist fix the RBA’s inflation problem? As the RBA admits interest rates are its only tool for managing inflation, alternative models propose dealing with supply shocks through price caps and strategic reserves.

Was just listening to Freakonomics pod about Kalshi and they were interviewing Nicole Kagan - and her accent made me think she must be Australian, with a lot of edges knocked off. Oxford and Harvard educated I wondered if that could turn either American or Brit accents into Aussie. 1/2

Googled. She looked Australian (how is that possible?). Digging deep into her LinkedIn CV finally found she must have been in Australia (if not Australian) with a decade of volunteering for charity up to 2021. It's a cool accent (it's not consistently, or overly, Australian sounding) 2/2

I'd never heard of Claude François - but this album cover makes me think he left International Rescue after a nasty break up with Brains to follow his musical dream

I'm searching for new sobriquet for the rebranded SkyNews - right now this is my top choice: News Plenty Poor

The Saturday Paper@thesaturdaypaper.com.au

For a long time, Sky News was easy to dismiss as a broom closet operation. The WIN deal has changed that. There is a growing recognition that News24’s free-to-air broadcasts in regional areas are shifting voters towards One Nation. trib.al/CTzElC5

I have a simple rule for dealing with my professional inbox "If you don't understand the subject, delete the thread" Case in point: "Cloud App Center Item Updater by Excel Conundrum"

B2B software is named either Andromeda or Thing Doer. Andromeda uses cutting edge AI, is endlessly configurable, has a huge sales team, and loses tons of money because at the end of the day it does fuck-all. Thing Doer makes Excel files regulation-compliant, and earns 300 million dollars per year.
