Really looking forward to speaking at @kcdc.bsky.social this week, seeing all my friends, and nerding out. I'll be talking about Reticulum and doing a classic workshop—Putting the D&D in TDD. I am not, however, looking forward to the drive. See ya in 600 miles!

CORE—the Central Ohio Radio Enthusiasts—are meeting on September 1st. This month we have Mark Noble KE8BZW presenting D-STAR: Digital Voice, Data, and Callsign Routing. Details are in the link and please RSVP so we can make sure we buy enough pizza. Link: core.radio

Central Ohio Radio Enthusiasts are meeting next week. This month we have Tom Graham presenting Going Vertical: Signals from the Sky. It's a talk about launching weather and pico balloons and tracking their movement around the globe. Details are in the link and please RSVP. Link: core.radio

I bought an amateur radio repeater. It's currently on the air and awaiting transferal of the trusteeship. Plus some additional equipment so I can get it properly set up on the Ohio Link Network. Perhaps I've gotten a little too deep into this hobby.

Fine-tuning is the new stored procedure. Logic pushed into the wrong layer. It's fast, of course. No remote lookups. It's as close to the model as you can possibly get. But it's a serious pain to version, to test, or to understand six months later.

Details, as always, are on the website. Please go there and RSVP so we can get a head count. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Talk starts at 6:30. The address is: 570 Polaris Pkwy Suite 200 Westerville, Ohio 43082 Second floor, at the end of the hallway

This month, I'll be speaking about #Reticulum. Don't know what Reticulum is? Not a problem. I'll explain what it is, how it works, and how to write software for it. But it's not just a talk this time, we're getting hands on and building an ad hoc Reticulum network right there in the room.

And by we, I really mean we. Bring your #LoRa boards, your laptop, your Raspberry Pis, cables, hubs, switches, and whatever networking gear you think might be fun to try to get on the network. Most of it will work.

The Central Ohio Radio Enthusiasts is meeting tomorrow at CGI in Westerville. The topic is DMR, or digital mobile radio, and Alex Barbur will be showing us how to use it. If you're interested, all the details are in the link. And, please RSVP so we know how much pizza to get! core.radio#meetings

And, special shout out to CGI for hosting us. Great meeting space. Great location. Great pizza. Great company! Thanks for making CORE possible.

You probably haven't heard of the Reticulum Network. The tl;dr—it's an alternative network stack that's decentralized, encrypted, and runs on everything from Ethernet to LoRa radios to serial cables.

One of my goals is to own my stuff. I think a lot of people are tired of their data, their tech, and their network being controlled by centralized powers. I am one of those people.

Well, I spent a good part of my weekend figuring this out and rather than just deploy it to my machine, I thought I'd share a repo that anyone can clone and use to get started with this configuration.

I've been trying to get these two tools to work containerized on my headless Linux box. Specifically, I want to use Obsidian Sync + Obsidian CLI.

Obsidian Sync so that I and the AI can work with my notes from anywhere. Obsidian CLI so the AI can be more intentional, will be less likely to corrupt any files, and won't consume all my tokens navigating the file structure.

One of my goals is to own my stuff. I think a lot of people are tired of their data, their tech, and their network being controlled by centralized powers. I am one of those people.

OpenClaw (openclaw.ai) is part of that goal. I'm still not hosting my own AI yet, but the agent's memory lives on my machine. The automation is controlled by me.

Obsidian (@obsidian.md) is part of that goal. My data stays on my devices and what is shared via the cloud is done so securely, privately, and respectfully.

I sometime banter with my AI. The smarter models have a pretty decent sense of humor. Or at least they stochastically fake one pretty well. Here's a fun little interaction with OpenClaw running GPT-5.1.

The first meeting for the Central Ohio Radio Enthusiasts is April 7. The topic is WiFi HaLow. Don't know what that is? I know how you can find out! RSVP. Join our Discord. Get on our mailing list for future events. How? It's all at core.radio. And shout out to our awesome host—@leadingedje.com!

International Women's Day is a fantastic thing to celebrate. May all the women in my life—and those not in my life for that matter—have a wonderful day. Of course, this year it landed on my birthday. So you'll forgive me if I also call it International Guy Day. Just this once.

Welp. What may have been obvious to others but not me is now official. I have ADHD. Now, gimme some Adderall!

I'll be on Eat Sleep Code today at 3pm ET to talk tech news with @edcharbeneau.bsky.social and John Bristowe. Will #AI come up? Will @redis.io? Of course! But I'll keep the hype to a minimum and focus on practical stuff that helps you build better apps. youtube.com/telerik

I'm starting a new meetup called CORE—the Central Ohio Radio Enthusiasts. It's for radio and radio-adjacent interests. It's not a ham radio club, we talk about that, but also GMRS, mesh networks like Meshtastic, Reticulum, and HaLow, software-defined radio, and shortwave listening.

We're just on Discord for now (might be moving soon, never know) but are looking for a venue for in person meetups. So if you have a place or know of a place, lemme know. And, of course, we want to get the word out. All the details can be found at core.radio.

core.radioCORE: Central Ohio Radio EnthusiastsCORE is an informal radio community in central Ohio. No experience needed — beginners, curious newcomers, and seasoned hams all welcome. Ham radio, GMRS, Meshtastic, SDR, LoRa, and more.

Found this nifty tool to create animated Mermaid diagrams. I've just messed with the free version but it's pretty cheap and even has a pay as you go if you just need a couple. It's at animerm.ai if you think it'd be useful.
