We can and will make electricity a lot cheaper. Solar got 100x cheaper in 40 years, and Nuclear energy hasn't changed due to outrageously regulatory stalemate. But if nuclear is built with today's technology it will get 11 and 100 times cheaper. Go to grandpa's resistive electric heater!

One thing you forgot to calculate-- how much could we subsidize consumers higher bills with the money not wasted on pipe upgrades? The utilities get to collect revenue today and profit on it based on a far-future use case. The trade unions get lots of work.

The Trump administration has rolled back support for many forms of clean energy. One exception is nuclear power. Trump wants to quadruple U.S. nuclear capacity by 2050, and a new generation of advanced reactors in development could signal the dawn of a new nuclear age. https://to.pbs.org/47yaEqx

We already have long term storage for nuclear waste. It is engineered, monitored, compact, and tiny compared to the waste streams of every other energy source. Nuclear has the best waste management record in the entire energy sector.

Another piece of good news -- climate solutions are starting to truly scale. Overall, the growth of solar, wind, nuclear, EVs, and heat pumps alone since 2019 prevents about 2.6 Gt-CO2 per year of global emissions! That's roughly the same as half the U.S. economy, to put it in perspective.

DOE plans to move forward with the LPO loan to restart the Palisades Nuclear Plant in Michigan. The $57M disbursement is the loan progressing as intended, not a significant change. Palisades is currently expected to restart in late 2025. I'm quoted in www.eenews.net/articles/doe...
