the first icing was that line trying to score on the empty net. the next two were panic/exhaustion icings. they survived that shift but it didn’t look convincing.

not calling that hilariously obvious trip on hutson in the offensive zone just to call a ticky tacky hold or something is like peak nhl. they made a makeup call on the same shift!

they gotta take that neighbors play out of the game. he catches the puck and throws it ahead to himself in a spot only he can get to. mcdavid did it a few weeks ago and scored. it sucks.

i am a major dobes booster, but playing fowler until he stumbles is totally fine. he was dialed on sunday. feels wrong to take him out after a game like that. he’s played 6 games this year. we aren’t at “they’re riding him into the ground” territory yet imo.

pressure test him now. he might be the goalie to get the nod in the playoffs. they’d need to know he can go long stretches playing every night. his play will tell you when he’s had enough.

fowler is 21. i think he can handle playing a handful of games in a row. dobes will get his time. having two good goalies is good. getting both guys to that level is the priority and the habs are giving dobes all the time in the world to get right.

there are a lot of games out there and many of them are not worth the $60-$70 price tag. star wars galactic racer is worth it. beat the campaign in about 11 hours over the course of a week. it’s a blast.

the habs are a top 10 team at 5v5 with an xGF% of 54.26. that would be nice if they spent a lot of time at 5v5. they don't. they have the 3rd fewest minutes played at 5v5. oh so they spend a lot of time on the powerplay? nah. they have the 4th most pk minutes and the 6th lowest pp minutes.

i hate doing the refball shit. i am tired of it. i try to lay off of it some nights because it drives me nuts to think about every game, but the data is what it is.

the frustrating thing is there is no good way to have this conversation. you bring it up and no matter how well thought out the argument is, it sounds like a tantrum about how unfair the refs are being. i imagine this is why not a lot of complaints made with the league materialize in anything.

the habs spend 42.9% of their even strength minutes in the offensive zone (4th in nhl) and have the 6th fewest powerplay minutes. canes: 1st in o-zone time at 5v5, 3rd in pp time panthers: 2nd in o-zone time at 5v5, 1st in pp time mammoth: 3rd in o-zone time at 5v5, 11th in pp time

you can be critical of the play some nights for montreal, but the numbers bear out a team that plays pretty well and just cannot buy a call from the refs. the habs' whistle is terrible. (the habs powerplay is also terrible, i am not absolving them of that)

herculean effort from the penalty kill. the jets powerplay is one of the best in the league. habs pk was up to the task in a big way.

the habs still have paul byron on the payroll. get him on the ice at practice to talk about breakaways. they never score on their breakaways.

bummed for dobes that he isn’t getting the start, but it’s the right call. big moment like this probably isn’t the best place to try to get him right. st. louis on tuesday is a better spot for that.
