I've been a developer for about 14 years. I recently released my first product called Qria (pronounced like "curious", but with an A). I'm documenting my descent into madness/entrepreneurship on here. Feel free to follow along!

If the US can be relied upon for one thing, it's making me feel a little better about the state of the UK.

The speed with which Southern states have taken away Black voting power is astonishing. It's almost like they'd been waiting for this opportunity. Almost like that's why they put Trump in power in the first place. 🤔 www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

As someone who's pretty new to both Bluesky and X, it seems like Bluesky is just a better, less spammy, less ad-filled version of X. Interested to hear some opinions as to why it's not doing better? X seems like a bit of a late stage capitalism cesspit. Why aren't more people jumping ship?

One thing I'm learning quickly is that I'm not used to slow feedback loops. As a dev, I could make a change, test it and instantly know if it has the desired effect. Marketing does not have this. It's constant, cumulative effort where you have no idea if it's working for ages.

First Monday as "Guy who's trying to start a business" (at least publicly...). I don't have Monday blues. I also don't feel overly excited. I mostly have the low level alertness of being lost in a city you don't know, but knowing you have a taxi fare in your pocket. Onwards!

As an, admittedly often vibes-based, europhile I've often felt uncomfortable at the hand waviness that comes along when people talk about European regulation. I've never been able to formulate my thoughts on the issue clearly, but this post goes a long way towards doing that for me.

There’s a familiar Libertarian story about Europe: Too much bureaucracy. Too much regulation. Too many worker protections. Too much privacy law. That’s why Europe doesn’t produce as many tech giants. It’s a neat argument. I’m just not sure it survives contact with detail.

Meta will go down in history as the quintessential case study of late stage capitalism. A company that has provided a consistently worse product over time and produced consistently less value over time to the detriment of both their users and employees, yet somehow gets consistently more profitable.

DIGIT @digitfyi.bsky.social

Meta will cut 10% of its workforce – around 8,000 employees, as it continues to up investments in AI. Full story www.digit.fyi/meta-to-cut-... #Tech | #News | #Meta | #Layoffs

Hear me out: Two internets. One that is just the first 5 years of YouTube, Flash game websites and anything built with pure HTML. And another that is just whatever the current internet is where AIs yell at each other in comment sections. Accepting angel investment for Internet 2.

On 23 April, 2005, the first video called “Me at the zoo” was uploaded to YouTube by one of the co-founders, Jawed Karim. It was a short video from the San Diego Zoo. #InternetHistory

I've been a developer for about 14 years. Today I launched my first product, Qria (pronounced like "curious"). It gathers customer feedback and reviews for you, then analyses them all to give you brief, actionable insights and sentiment: qria.io

I'm going to try and be more active on here as I continue working on this and other projects, documenting what I learn along the way. If you're at all interested in product development, entrepreneurship or tech, give me a follow and learn along with me!

You are up to date.
