It's been too long since I've shown actual game footage of my four-directional falling block puzzle game, so here you go! #indiedev #gamedev #screenshotsaturday #madewithmonogame #solodev #fallingblocks #puzzlegame

Added a (very rough) first pass at boss introduction banners! They'll help you learn what you're about to face. The colors are based on the core itself, but... there's definitely a lot of work to be done here #indiedev #solodev #monogame #fallingblocks

Brycicle is one of the characters that will be playable in my #indiegame! It always annoyed me that characters in falling block puzzle games didn't change anything with the gameplay, so my goal is to have characters that actually and meaningfully change the way the game is played. #oc #art

It's not much, but it's a start: A title screen for my falling block puzzle game! On a related note, I'm taking suggestions for the game's name lol #screenshotsaturday #indiegame #indiedev #solodev #monogame

Added two bosses to my #indiegame tonight! This one is called Diminish - it only spawns monominoes and dominoes, rarely giving you a larger triomino to cover the space with. #monogame #indiedev #solodev #fallingblocks

This one is similar: The pentomino boss will force only pentominoes to spawn. Like the Diminish boss, it also gives you less time to cover your field than a normal core would!

Spent this week vastly improving the UI. Still a lot of work to be done, but I'm really happy with the visual indicators showing the current status of everything #monogame #indiedev #screenshotsaturday

I'm staying up way too late to work on this kind of thing But I also love how my UI is starting to become more polished so whatever lol #indiedev #monogame #solodev

I added bosses to my #fallingblock #indiegame! This one, the gravity boss, causes gravity to change randomly and that only items that change gravity spawn on the board. Also the game gets faster the less health you have now #monogame #solodev

Watching the Fire Emblem direct yesterday has been dangerous for both my wallet and my falling block puzzle game because I want to make a game with dozens of characters now lol

New oc for a little physical card game I'm doing on the side so I don't go insane debugging my main game lol Her name is Dani Saylor, and while she LOVES knives and acrobatics, she promises that she's completely sane*. *Medical professionals have not evaluated or verified this statement.

Here’s hoping the brand-new Vulkan backend will make development on Mac/Linux a whole lot easier!

Impromptu Memora Wanderer NPC making time! Post your characters and I'll choose some at random and make them, and they might appear in-game like in towns. Boosts appreciated! Here are some I made previously:

I spent a good portion of this week adding sound effects to the game, but I decided last night that I didn't like what I'd selected, so back to square one with that But at least I've been able to add proper input prompts on the play screen now! #indiedev #gamedev #monogame #screenshotsaturday

Mostly QoL stuff this week: Added a countdown at the start of the game and the omino has the status icon in addition to the border color Bombs were replaced with a generator status to get energy too (main way to get it now) #screenshotsaturday #monogame #indiedev #solodev #fallingblocks #tetris

This week for #screenshotsaturday, I changed the default resolution of the game to 1920x1080p, implemented a bag system so that you don't get the same piece 5 times within 7 turns, and fixed the window resizing/scaling code that would mess up the UI #indiedev #madewithmonogame #solodev #gamedev

Anyone else out there making a falling block puzzle game for their #indiedev or #gamedev project? ( #fallingblock games include #tetris #puzzleleague and #puyopuyo for those not familiar with the concept)

It's been a while (May was rough), but I've still got a lot done since I last posted, including: - A pause menu that's actually centered on the screen - Full-color character art - Little indicators showing you that going that way is bad for your health #gamedev #madewithmonogame #indiedev #solodev

I also added automatic pausing when the screen loses focus, which has already made things a lot better. The game over screen has also gotten a (small) overhaul The Gum UI library is giving me a rough time though, so these UI enhancements might be as far as I go for a little bit lol

Had the idea of having the field change when the gravity pulses or when the gravity changes. I'm curious which one y'all prefer (with no field change being a totally acceptable option). This is with gravity pulses (when the gravity forces the omino down) #indiedev #gamedev #madewithmonogame

Excellent thread. I got my master's degree and game development and never even tried for the industry (it didn't seem like a good fit for me and my family), but the skills I learned there helped me land a job working on a flight simulator that actual pilots use for actual FAA training

Sometimes the “game schools are bad b/c they aren’t trade schools where grads walk out with the exact portfolio our studio wants” discourse bubbles up. Here are thoughts from an educator with industry chops: 1) hiring in the industry has never been reliable for even people with banging portfolios

And at my current job, though it's a far cry from simulation, I've been able to apply other principles I know to boost the performance of in-house software and make code cleaner. If I'd been trained in just one niche aspect of game development, I don't think I'd be nearly as well off as I am now

I haven't posted anything for the past couple of weeks for #screenshotsaturday because I was busy reworking the rendering code to make connected textures and autogenerate the omino shape renders And I am very proud of the result #indiedev #solodev #madewithmonogame (Images are before and after)

My four-directional falling-block puzzle game is really starting to come to life! I added one of the character renders, did some much-needed UI adjustments (overhaul in the works), and solved some bugs with window resizing #screenshotsaturday #MadeWithMonoGame #indiedev #monogame #solodev #gamedev
